Director of People and Safeguarding
Full-Time, 35 hours per week
Bristol / hybrid, with up to 2 days / week WFH
This is an exciting time for the Diocese of Bristol. We have just commenced a fully-funded 5-year transformation programme which aims to reinvigorate and grow our parishes; through Following Jesus, Serving Others, and Transforming Communities. The Director of People and Safeguarding is a strategically vital appointment, as the post holder will lead on the organisational priorities of developing our people, embedding our culture and values and transforming our ways of working to create a safe and equitable environment both amongst staff and within our Parishes.
The post holder will provide strategic people & safeguarding direction and expertise across the diocese, and help us to share and deliver best People and Safeguarding practice. Serving as a close adviser to the Chief Executive and to all members of the Bishop's Senior Staff Team, with regard to Leadership, Development, Racial Justice, Culture and Wellbeing, Coaching, Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, Stakeholder Engagement, Volunteering and Organisational Change and Safeguarding.
The post holder will also oversee the provision of a comprehensive people service to the diocese in respect of its ordained and lay office holders, volunteers, and employees, and will provide employment advice to parishes and linked organisations. Candidates should have:
Experience of supervising or managing others at Head of Department level Experience of successfully leading a People function at senior level An adaptable, collaborative and persuasive leadership style and approach that will inspire the trust and commitment of others, with strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills Commitment to and experience of Safeguarding principles, demonstrating values and attitudes that promote a safe environment for all.
