About AREF

The Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) is a charitable foundation that invests in developing talented young African health researchers.

AREF is now looking for a Trusts and Major Fundraising Officer to join our team. This roie will be based in the UK.

Job Purpose

This important new role is aimed at increasing levels of engagement, interest and financial support from Trusts and Foundations and major donors. The Trusts and Major Gifts Fundraising Officer will lead on some Trusts (75%) and manage some key major donor relationships (25%). They will be building on the existing relationships that are already well established in addition to cultivating new leads to raise income and to develop a more sustainable mix of income.

What you will bring

Excellent knowledge and understanding of the key principles and methods of fundraising from trusts and foundations and/or major donors

Prospect research and donor stewardshiExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire different audiences through proposals, presentations and other tools

Ability to establish and build relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds, both externally and within AREFAbility to understand and summarise complex information and align donor interests with different areas of AREF’s work

Financial management skills and ability to work with budgets

·        Windows-based software packages, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
