Director of Public Health
Up to £133k
It’s an exciting time for our Public Health teams across Reading and West Berkshire. Over the last year we’ve taken great strides to redesign our arrangements for Public Health. Where it makes sense to do so, we have brought services and functions together within our Berkshire West Integrated Care Board footprint. Now we are ready for a new Director of Public Health working across our two Boroughs to make the finishing touches to our new model and put it into action.
About the role
We are serious about improving health and reducing health inequalities across our population. We recognise that this needs a team effort, not just across Councils but with all our partners including a unique opportunity to build a joint Public Health service to further drive improvements in inequalities in health across both places.
This new post of Director of Public Health will lead this team effort, building on our already strong partnerships to accelerate progress across our system of Public services.
About you
We’re looking for someone who can galvanise our teams across the local authorities, combining your technical expertise with inspirational leadership to make things happen, without losing sight of the goal of improved health and a reduction in health inequalities.
You should be an experienced Public Health professional with a strong track record of influence across systems and of managing teams to deliver. You will be a real collaborator, able to spot opportunities and inspire commitment and action across organisations. You will be adept in delivering in democratically led organisations and as comfortable in a senior leadership environment as in a public meeting. You will be skilled in leading indirectly, shaping ideas and thinking, but able to prioritise and make swift decisions when required.
Our offer
We offer a supportive environment to grow and develop your career across a strong and maturing system. Innovation and ambition is strongly encouraged, and you’ll get a great feel for that working in our friendly and collaborative environment.
A competitive salary alongside a range of benefits including:
- Generous holiday entitlement - 31 days holiday each year plus bank holidays - rising to 33 days after 10 years' service, with the option to buy additional leave
- A wide range of flexible working opportunities
- Modern working environment at the Civic Offices in the heart of Reading
- Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
- Life Assurance - three times your annual salary (for members of the LGPS)
- On-site day nursery (Kennet Day nursery) rated outstanding by Ofsted, and a salary sacrifice scheme to help lower the cost of your nursery fees
- Season Ticket Loan - a loan to help with the cost of your rail or bus journey, to and from work
- Lease car salary sacrifice scheme allowing you to lease a brand new, greener car for three years. The monthly fee includes insurance, servicing and road tax
