Job description

The Service Director will have a corporate role as a member of the Trust’s Executive Team that will include helping to shape the Trust’s overall objectives and will share corporate responsibility for the governance of the Trust and compliance with legal requirements.

The Service Director will be required to provide clear leadership and oversight of a number of Service Divisions ensuring the quality and safety of services to patients and service users through effective multidisciplinary working.

The Service Director is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of services under the six key elements of Safety, Effectiveness, Efficiency, Equity, Timeliness and Experience in line with the Trust’s Quality Management System and will be expected to demonstrate good management in all of the above quality metrics. 

 

Division of Trauma, Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation

The Trauma service is based on the Royal Hospitals site and provides services for both Regional and District General Trauma.

The Elective Orthopaedic service is located on Musgrave Park Hospital site and provides treatment for 7000 patients a year.

The regional Rehabilitation service is also situated on Musgrave Park Hospital site and comprises two Inpatient units for Neurology and Brain Injury patients along with a prosthetic and rehabilitation equipment services.

 

Division of Imaging, Medical Physics and Outpatients

The Imaging Service provides CT, MRI, Non Obstetric Ultrasound, Interventional Radiology and Plain Film Imaging services across the acute sites, along with providing the Regional Thrombectomy Services for patients following a diagnosis of stroke. The Trust has also been selected as the host of the new Regional Imaging Training Academy.

The Regional Medical Physics Service is comprised of 4 different services: Radioisotopes, Radiotherapy, Radiological Imaging & Protection and Clinical Engineering services.

Belfast Health and Social Care Trust delivers a range of secondary and tertiary care level Outpatient services for both the local population of the Greater Belfast Area and for the wider population of Northern Ireland.

 

Essential Criteria

  • A professional qualification or a University degree and worked for at least 3 years in a senior management role in a major complex organisation

OR

Worked for at least 5 years in a senior management role in a major complex organisation

AND

Delivered against challenging performance management programmes for at least 3 years meeting a full range of key targets and making significant improvements

And

For at least 3 years, have worked with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation, to achieve successful outcomes.

And

Successfully demonstrated high level people management, governance and organisational skills for a minimum of 3 years.

And

Hold a full current driving licence valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.

(This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post)

  • A proven track record of effectively leading a business / service area to meet corporate objectives.
  • Effective interpretation and communication of data.
  • Building strategic relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective analysis and judgement of risk and opportunity with systematic curiosity.
  • Effective management of workforce challenges.
  • Effective management of all financial resources to ensure value for money.
  • Good understanding of professional and regulatory issues.
  • Shortlisted candidates will need to demonstrate that they have the required knowledge, skills, competencies and values to be effective in this role.
