Overview of the role
Archive Mole is a fast-growing research firm with one, simple mission: to provide historians and history students across the world with digital copies of historical documents located in UK archives, libraries and record offices. Although we offer a range of other solutions to the history profession, Document Copying remains our most popular service. In our first year alone, we copied over 110,000 documents for historians based at 55 universities in North America, China, Australia, Europe and the UK.
We are seeking new members to join our pool of Document Copiers to take photographs of historical documents in Manchester and across Lancashire. This varied role is ideal for an organised and diligent individual who wants to earn some extra money. The role is flexible and you will be free to accept or decline assignments offered to suit your schedule and personal commitments. We may offer you work at various locations but you will mostly be asked to visit Manchester. Your hours of work will vary depending on the requirements of your assignment, and you will only be asked to work weekdays and, occasionally, Saturdays.

Core duties
- Take photographs of a specified list of historical documents located in archives, libraries and/or record offices
- Working at a fast and efficient pace, ensure that all photographs are consistent and up to the required standard
- Transfer all photographs to the Lead Researcher according to agreed-upon specifications
Experience, skills and requirements
Essential
- Fluent in using digital cameras (SLR or phone)
- Own a digital camera (SLR or smartphone)
- Ability to travel across Manchester and Lancashire
- Excellent time-management skills
- Fast and efficient at carrying out tasks
- A keen eye for detail
- Highly organised and diligent with a natural ability to work to processes and deadlines
- Web and digital savvy
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision
- Ability to maintain focus and concentration
- A flexible approach to work
Desirable
- Experience of working in or visiting archives, libraries and/or record offices
- An interest in history
We will provide you with any necessary training required; all such training is mandatory.
