We are a dynamic local authority providing essential services to the people of Gloucester.

Our main office, based in the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street in the heart of the city, is an accessible, modern and light space designed for collaborative working and finding new ways to work. It's all open plan, with a living green wall and other plants without set desks, so you can sit next to someone new every day.  We're always looking to improve how we work and we offer flexible and agile working to give our people a great work life balance.

Under schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equalities Act 2010, the nature of this role provides a Genuine Occupational Requirement for female-only applicants. It is therefore permissible to only accept submissions from female candidates.

About the role…

We have an exciting opportunity to join Gloucester City Council’s dynamic Housing Options Team, as a specialist Housing Officer supporting survivors of Domestic Abuse who face multiple disadvantage. You will help make a difference to survivors by applying a gender and trauma informed lens to statutory housing work across the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.

You will manage an active case load, ensuring assessments are completed, advice and options explored with survivors in a timely and sensitive manner. You will provide valuable support to housing colleagues with your specialist knowledge of Domestic Abuse and by championing best practice approaches. You will participate in multiagency work and will have the opportunity to co-locate with specialist services, working collaboratively with colleagues from across the housing and DA/VAWG sector to prevent and relieve homelessness.

You will work creatively to overcome barriers to accessing housing pathways, collaborating with colleagues from across housing, health and specialist support sectors to prioritise the safety and recovery of survivors.

What we need from you…

You will bring your understanding of the impact of Domestic Abuse on individual survivors, their families and the community as a whole. We also need your proactive, solution-focussed skills to overcome barriers to safe housing pathways for women facing multiple disadvantage and intersectionality. You’ll also bring your gender and trauma informed professional practices to build supportive relationships with survivors and professionals. To be successful, you will need excellent organisational skills, to allow you to prioritise dynamic risks and needs, and meet deadlines.

We welcome applications from applicants with lived experience of homelessness and/or Domestic Abuse.

What we can do for you…

For all your hard work, you will receive the following:

  • Flexible,  Hybrid/Agile working opportunities
  • Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • Generous annual leave entitlement - 25 days annual leave rising to 30 days after 5 years continuous service
  • An option to purchase 10 days of additional leave per year (pro rata for part-time staff)
  • Regular job-specific training, career development and qualification opportunities
  • Supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone, and an in-house Occupational Health service
  • Cycle to Work scheme (Salary Sacrifice -T&C apply)
  • Employee discount scheme
  • Discounted tickets for local events, and reduced rate use of GL1 facilities
  • Access to employee led networks such as Black Worker’s, Prism (LGBT+), Carers, Disability and the Young Employees Network, and opportunities to participate in our Equalities Working Group.
