(a) To clean resident’s bedrooms as instructed using equipment and materials provided. Cleaning includes vacuuming floors, dusting and cleaning ornaments – moving them to clean surfaces, dusting and cleaning furniture and emptying paper waste bins. Thorough cleaning to be completed once every two weeks on a rota basis in all resident’s rooms.
(b) To clean communal areas including bathrooms and toilets as instructed using equipment and materials provided. Clinical waste to be moved in yellow bags from sluice bins to the external storage bins for collection by waste disposal contractors.
(c) To clean public areas of the Home (hall, lounges, dining room, staircase, lift etc.) by vacuuming floors and including high dusting and washing down paintwork. Spot cleaning of carpets to be carried out when necessary.
(d) To maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the Home and to report any concerns about the state of cleanliness or hygiene including unpleasant smells, from furniture, furnishings, carpets and floor coverings, residents clothing or laundry, to the Senior Nursing staff on duty or to the Director.
(e) To check all toilets daily and ensure that spare toilet rolls, clean hand towels and hand washing soap are available in each toilet.
(f) To use all materials and equipment as instructed and in accordance with safe and hygienic practices (see Training Notes on the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health COSHH and Health & Safety at Work).
(g) To ensure the safe and secure storage of all equipment and cleaning materials at all times.
(h) To assist as required with the ordering and purchase of cleaning materials and checking stocks and to keep records as required and instructed.
(i) To carry out special deep cleaning as required and as instructed.
(j) To assist with laundry duties as required and operate laundry equipment as instructed.
(k) To assist at mealtimes with the feeding of residents.
3. General responsibilities
(a) To maintain safe and hygienic systems and practices at all times and in accordance with statutory requirements and the Home’s Policies and Procedures.
(b) To be alert to and report any potentially dangerous situations or accidents to the Manager or the Senior Nursing Staff on duty.
(c) To maintain records as instructed.
(d) To read, understand and carry out Camelot Care Policies and Procedures.
(e) To advise the Manager, Senior Nursing Staff on duty or the Director of any incidents affecting the safety and welfare of the residents.
(f) To respect the individuality and right to privacy of all residents at all times and to seek advice from the Manager or the Senior Nursing Staff on duty about any concerns regarding residents personal belongings, behaviour or hygiene.
