About Knowl Park House:
Knowl Park House Dementia Day Opportunities is specially designed for Dementia care. We look after up to 50 services each day. We offer a wide range of person-centred activities within the centre and out in the community.
The Role:
As a driver, you will be required to:
- Assist when required to ensure the safe transfer of passengers to and from the vehicle at their destination and/or home.
- Ensure that wheelchairs are clamped safely, and people secured in their seats in accordance with the Code of Practice.
- Liaise with the Manager regarding daily pick-ups and routes to be travelled and advise of any concerns and difficulties.
As a Handyperson, your main duties will be:
- Cleaning of buildings and surrounds.
- Basic maintenance of equipment and buildings, e.g. changing electric fuses/plugs, light bulbs, door locks, making safe pending the arrival of a specialist.
- Assist residents to use electrical appliances e.g. shavers and hairdryers.
- Basic maintenance/repairs to client’s wheelchairs etc.
- Ground maintenance e.g. weeding of flower beds, grass cutting, hedge cutting.
- Security duties involving patrolling the premises both inside and out and reporting any disrepair leading to security risk, repairing if possible or making safe.
- Moving of refuse, equipment, furniture, supplies, and personal effects.
- Take appropriate action in case of emergency in accordance with specified instructions.
Requirements for this job:
- You must hold a full and valid driving licence - with category D1. You must also be willing to undertake and pass the Kirklees Council driving test and travel between sites using a Council vehicle. D1 licence is preferable, however, if the candidate does not hold a D1 an expectation of completing the full D1 driver assessment training is required once in post.
- Experience of home and outdoor maintenance.
- Knowledge of basic maintenance e.g. working with electrical appliances.
- Understanding of basic gardening.
- You must have the ability to demonstrate literacy skills in order to read and follow instructions and an understanding of practical hygiene issues relating to the kitchen and other areas.
- To undertake Movement and Handling training to help you assess and reduce risks to yourself, colleagues and residents.
