Job Description: EC&I Maintenance Technician

Location: Blackburn

Type of Contract: Permanent

The Position

The EC&I Maintenance Technician will support the Maintenance Team Leader in Blackburn in all E,C&I maintenance related activities at the station. The post holder is required to plan, contract (including the management of contractors) and/ or physically carry out E,C&I maintenance works on site, including the preparation of method statements and Risk Assessments, as required.

Responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to undertake a wide range of tasks within their level of competence. The following will be included:

Ensure consistent high levels of housekeeping and Safety

Ensure compliance with relevant statutory requirements particularly the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Environmental Protection Act.

Prepare and manage required contracts

Participate in the implementation of the Company Safety Rules as either Competent Person or Authorised Person (in accordance with development matrix) in order to ensure that safety from the system is achieved.

Deliver service and maintenance Best Practice

Manage contracts and provide supervision of designated people during plant overhauls.

Proactive and creative approach to fault diagnosis and problem solving.

Provide support on a 24/7 basis and ensure maintenance plans and targets for the team are achieved safely, on time, at or below budget, to the correct quality and within the environmental limits of the station.

Support and deliver the Process Safety KPI’s associated with areas of responsibility.

Develop understanding of the business and Station objectives.

Dimensions

Input into developing and managing budgets and costs.

Undertake procurement activities within the Company policies and process, including developing technical specifications.

Participation in delivery of major and interim inspections and overhauls, managing contracts and contractors in accordance with commercial requirements and statutory obligations.

Deliver hands-on maintenance activities on E, C&I equipment.

Maintain interfaces with suppliers, contractors, and other parties.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, including written reports.

There is an expectation for occasional travel to each site to undertake work activities as the business requires.

Ability to handle multiple work projects running together as the business need arises.

Desired Skills, Knowledge and Experience The following is essential:

Computer literacy skills.

Prior experience in the maintenance of a CCGT plant or in large-scale process industry, and

Educated to HNC standard or equivalent qualifications and experience.

The following are desirable:

Demonstration of team working skills.

IOSH Entry Level Qualification to Managing Safely.

Knowledge of budgets and contract management

Knowledge and experience of the principles of working safely and health, safety and environmental legislation.

Focused on achieving results and keen to develop skills.

Self-motivated with a flexible approach.

Ability to support other disciplines with work planning and plant diagnostics. Special Requirements:

Willing and able to work occasional planned and unplanned overtime, including unsociable hours, as well as supporting an informal call out rota.

Occasional travel to other sites, suppliers and training providers etc (limited but possible, occasional travel abroad).

Planning and ‘Organisation

Good organisation and time management skills. With limited supervision deliver maintenance in conjunction with E, C&I, engineering, and commercial requirement.

Manage assigned E, C&I elements of outage programmes including contract development, procurement, and commercial management and contract supervision.

Able to communicate with all levels of staff and management, both verbally and in written reports.

React and support plant breakdowns being able to prioritise workload under pressure to mitigate impact to profitability.

Ability to analyse and diagnose problems in a rational and positive manner.

Qualifications

HNC/ ONC in an engineering discipline and a relevant Apprenticeship, with prior experience in a process industry-based maintenance role.

Or 2:1 Degree in an Engineering discipline.

Pay: £45,500 – 49,500 per annum

Mon-Fri 37.5 hr week
