Our high performing Publishing Operations team is responsible for managing our journals peer review process, and due to ongoing growth and employee development across the team, we are always keen to hear from individuals with excellent organisational and decision-making skills, who are looking to develop a career in scientific publishing. We are regularly on the look-out for Associate Editors and Publishing Service Assistants to join our team on both a permanent and fixed-term contract basis.

Associate Editor

Associate Editors work across a portfolio of journals, contributing to improving the quality of content and author service. Applying sound scientific judgement, and working in a close-knit team, collaboratively and cross-functionally, you will be responsible for providing a quality and efficient peer review process the process which ensures the quality and validity of research papers submitted to IOP Publishing for publication.

This involves selecting appropriate reviewers, taking decisions at key stages of the process on the basis of expert advice, improving author and reviewer service, and upholding the journals' high standards in timeliness, quality and accuracy.

As youll be interacting with leading academics from around the world, youll be a confident communicator and ambassador for IOP Publishing. On occasions, you may need to handle disagreement or conflict effectively, so tact and diplomacy will also be vital. Whilst a background in physics is not essential, you will be expected to continuously develop a working knowledge of your journals subject area in the role.

Publishing Service Assistants

As a Publishing Services Assistant you will join our high performing peer review team and play a vital role in ensuring excellent customer service to our authors and reviewers. Responsible for the administration of the publishing process, you will work following set working procedures to ensure our submission systems are updated accurately and promptly in order to maintain an excellent level of customer service and data quality.

Excellent service contributes to the attraction and retention of top authors and reviewers, and is critical to the future success of IOP Publishings journal business. As the primary point of contact for authors and reviewers, and through the administration of one or more journal titles, Editorial Assistants drive articles through the publication process from receipt to publication and beyond. Editorial Assistants also work as part of one or more journal teams, supporting in-house peer review staff, as well as maintaining good quality data in our systems.

Happy to work independently as well as within a team, you will be able to demonstrate excellent organizational skills and also be adaptable and quick to learn. With a proactive approach to work, you will have excellent attention to detail in order to work to very high standards of accuracy when entering data and in written correspondence.

Flexible Working:

This role is based in Bristol however as there will not be a requirement for the person in this role to be in the office on a weekly basis, we are open to considering applicants from a wider geographical area who are happy to travel to Bristol for quarterly meetings, annual performance reviews, one to one and team meetings, subject to business needs.
