About us
UCL is a radically different university. Founded in 1826 in the heart of London, we were the first university in England to welcome students of any religion and the first to welcome women on equal terms with men. Today UCL has over 40,000 students and 12,500 staff and is one of the world’s top 10 universities. We have a culture of promoting diversity and sustainability and 30 Nobel laureates among our current and previous alumni.
Ranked fifth in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject for the last two consecutive years (2021 and 2022), and with several of our departments ranked 6th for Research Power in the recent REF 2021, the Faculty of Arts & Humanities (A&H) at UCL is recognised globally for both its teaching and research excellence.
We offer study at all levels - undergraduate, postgraduate taught and PhD - in our ten departments which, alongside the traditional Arts and Humanities disciplines housed within English, Philosophy, Greek & Latin, the Slade School of Fine Art and the School of European Languages, Culture & Society, also includes the departments of Hebrew & Jewish Studies, Information Studies, Arts and Sciences (offering the interdisciplinary BASc/MASc programmes), the School of Slavonic & East European Studies and European & International Social & Political Studies.
About the role
The Education & Student Experience Manager will manage the implementation of Student Experience-related priorities – such as student welcome and induction, the overall learning environment, and well-being and careers support – identified in the UCL and Faculty strategies, for both taught and research students. The position is part of the A&H Faculty Education and Student Experience (ESE) team who work to support all of our students and involves line managing other members of this team.
The post-holder will work closely with the Head of Education & Student Experience (HESE) and the rest of the Faculty ESE team on a range of initiatives, using knowledge of activities across the sector and networking with existing students and staff to advise on the nature of these. The post-holder will also be the first point of contact for colleagues in academic departments on matters relating to student casework (e.g. extenuating circumstances, academic misconduct) and will support the HESE and Director of Education & Student Experience in ensuring there are appropriate policies and procedures in place to manage these.
The Faculty is currently reorganising its Education Administration and Student Experience (EASE) function, including disaggregating the current Joint Faculties Education Team (shared with the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences) into two discrete Faculty ESE teams. The post holder will form part of the new A&H Faculty ESE team, and will be expected to implement change and support continuous improvement across the Faculty EASE function as this change process is undertaken.
NOTE: UCL is currently reorganising its EASE function. This may result in changes to some of the specific duties and responsibilities of this position and/or its reporting line(s). The post holder will be expected to implement change and support continuous improvement as this change process is undertaken, and on an ongoing basis after this.
