These are exciting times for the Charity and we have an excellent opportunity for a proactive and creative individual with outstanding problem solving and interpersonal skills to join our Education team on a fixed-term contract. As Education Veterinary Advisor, you will support our aim to improve the welfare of donkeys and to strengthen systems relating to donkey health and welfare through education and training locally and globally. This role will create clinical and welfare education resources produced and published by The Donkey Sanctuary, ensuring a high standard of evidence based content and professional presentation

About you:

  • Significant equid knowledge and practical experience.
  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon.
  • Teaching, training, or lecturing experience.
  • A commitment to animal welfare and wellbeing and its promotion through knowledge sharing.
  • Skills around online learning approaches including the use of Virtual Learning Environments.
  • Excellent organisational skills, project management skills, and the ability to prioritise.
  • Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail whilst dealing with a number of conflicting demands and timescales.

About the role:

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include –

  • Developing and delivering clinical and welfare education and training resources.
  • Providing technical input to a range of sanctuary projects that support our strategic plan, and into education resources produced and published by The Donkey Sanctuary, ensuring a high standard of content and presentation.
  • Liaising with all departments and global partners (including professional partners such as Vets, Academic partners and other animal health professionals) in support of the activities of cross-departmental programmes.
  • Researching and developing a range of clinical and welfare resources into culturally and linguistic appropriate online content, including new clinical courses for the Canvas VLE platform as directed by stakeholder need.
  • Assisting employees in international settings to develop and implement online and face-to-face teaching and training resources and programmes focused on donkey clinical and welfare needs.
  • Maintaining and developing appropriate external links with educational institutions including global Universities, industry, and other communities to support our resources aimed at improving the lives of donkeys and mules.

What we offer in return:

Based in Sidmouth, Devon – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – this is a full-time, 12-month maternity cover contract starting on 13 May 2024, working 35 hours per week. Core working hours will be 08.30-16.30, Monday-Friday, with flexibility required to meet the demands of the role and for occasional travel to other Donkey Sanctuary sites across the United Kingdom.

The working pattern for this role will combine onsite and home working under our guiding principles for such roles, with onsite attendance currently anticipated to be 2 days per week.
