We're looking for collaborative and passionate Design Engineers to join our growing Engineering Design team at NPL. You will work with a team of professionals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, celebrating the unique contributions that everyone brings to the team. In this hybrid role you will spend approx. 2 – 3 days a week on site in Teddington, and the rest working remotely. As our Engineer, you'll be responsible for applying established knowledge or solutions to a range of technical activities. You'll be working collaboratively as part of a team to extend the capability of technical area to contribute innovative solutions to important challenges, and deliver products and services aligned to NPL strategy. You'll be responsible for the standard of delivery of your own work (to time, cost, and quality) with a strong customer focus.
As our Higher Engineer, you'll be responsible for planning and delivery of technical activities to support demonstrable impact. You'll acquiring the additional knowledge in order to recognise and analyse a range of problems, and to develop solutions to address these. You'll lead on the delivery of technical activities to deliver demonstrable impact to the business and the UK to meet bid requirements.
As our Senior Engineer, you will provide specialist expertise in instrumentation and automation systems design, whilst being responsible for assuring compliance with legislation and standards of products provided by NPL. As a senior member of the team, you’ll supervise other members of the team– sharing your knowledge and motivating them to do better. As an expert in your field, you'll provide everyday design solution advice and a consultancy service as needed across the department. As such, you’ll be expected to be up to date with the latest developments.
What you’ll be doing:
- Identifying and assist in capturing customer requirements and transferring these into designs and specifications
- Designing automation, instrumentation and safety systems and products
- Installing, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning automation systems
- Sourcing and testing instrumentation to prove suitability for application
- Preparing design risk assessments
- Issuing electrical wiring and interconnection drawings using CAD
- Managing and maintaining system documentation
- Checking designs and documentation for correctness and compliance with standards
- Working with suitable suppliers of equipment, services, and material
