About the Role

As an Electrical EngineerProtection & Control Equipment/FACTS, you will be required to live within a 1-hour commute of our HQ in Warwick as you will join an existing team based there and you’ll have the flexibility to work from home for up to 2 days per week dependent on the needs of the business, flexibility for monthly national travel to attend site and supplier visits is required. The Electrical EngineerProtection & Control Equipment/FACTS will support the development of all aspects of an asset’s lifecycle including development of virtual team working within protective relays & Control systems/capacitive compensation, SVCs and STATCOM. You’ll be responsible for influencing internal and external stakeholders whilst leading change initiatives for our policies, procedures, standards or specifications and delivering these through influencing internal and external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Provide detailed technical and asset management knowledge within your ET technical area
  • Manage policies, procedures, technical/work specifications, internal standards and technical guidance
  • Support the development of the technical strategy within specific area of technical expertise
  • Develop virtual team working taking advantage of technology/methodology developments
  • Undertake type registration activities in line with relevant TP with limited supervision
  • Communicate standard issues in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
  • Represent National Grid on appropriate external national committees
  • Influence the direction of national policy, standards or specifications

Essential:



  • A full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK
  • A relevant BSc Degree in an Engineering, Mathematics or Physics discipline
  • Extensive Electrical Engineering experience gained from the electrical supply or electrical manufacturing industries
  • Experience of specification, design, development, maintenance and/or lifetime management of Protection & Control equipment or static compensation equipment or dynamic compensation equipment
  • Experience of asset management including developing risk, cost, performance decision making processes


Desirable:



  • Membership of relevant professional body with chartered status
  • Experience of Asset Management Systems including business drivers and planning requirements
  • Experience of type registration and type testing
