About the Role

As an Electrical & Mechanical Fitter – Substation, you will join our Tamar team in the Southwest of England and be required to live within 45 minutes of Plymouth, Launceston, Bodmin or Liskeard. You’ll generally be working in a team of 2 to 10 people and be involved with maintenance, refurbishment or replacement work on electricity substations. This could be from single asset replacements such as circuit breakers and transformers to maintaining/repairing aging high speed on load tap changers or complex 400kV circuit breakers. We also work on all kinds of ancillary equipment, DC battery systems, air compressors, diesel generators etc.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Install, refurbish, maintain, fault find and condition monitor all substation plant and equipment
  • Ensure all work is on time and in full as per the work programme
  • Escalate variances to the plan to the Project Leader or Line Manager
  • Drive safe collaborative working practices and accurate cost capture through the use of outage hubs
  • Carry out duties as a ‘Competent Person’ and ‘Person in Charge’
  • Eliminate accidents by adopting risk assessment techniques, method statements and hazard awareness reporting all near misses
  • Utilise all relevant systems including IS, email and paper-based recording and accessing accurate data

Essential:



  • A full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK
  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering level 3 recognised apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
  • Significant on the tools Electrical or Mechanical industry engineering experience
  • Experience of electrical testing and fault finding
  • Experience of working to safety procedures

Desirable:



  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
  • MEWP trained
  • Substation experience
  • Experience of pressurised systems
  • Experience of panel wiring
