Job description

Job Role: Electrical Support Engineer

Our client is seeking a dedicated Electrical Support Engineer to join their team permanently. As an Electrical Support Engineer, you will utilize your expertise in electrical engineering to provide technical support and assistance to the engineering team.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Mechanical Engineer and Head of Engineering to handle electrical tasks, testing protocols, and resolve issues.
  • Develop and manage the VTGB Job Pack system for electrically biased Job Packs.
  • Take ownership of electrically biased concessions and Engineering Changes (ECs).
  • Create, review, develop, certify, and manage electrically biased BoMs.
  •  Manage all electrically biased data, manuals, drawings, and information.
  • Determine, design/select, and reverse engineer electrical components, systems, and test equipment.
  • Conduct electrically biased investigations, analyses, research, and assessments to support NCRs, customer complaints, warranty claims, fault diagnosis, and overhaul activities.

Specific Skills & Knowledge

  • Flexible, positive, adaptable, proactive self-starter with strong commercial awareness.
  • Fluent in technical and conversational English.
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office applications, SAP, and ERP systems.
  • Understanding of OPEX, production, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality system and current HSE standards.
  • Good leadership, influencing skills, and excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Ability to self-learn, work effectively in a team, and contribute to new product introduction (NPI) and system design.

Professional Experience & Education

  • Minimum HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic/Avionics (Electrically biased) Engineering. A degree in an electrically biased engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years (preferably 4+) in design engineering, with experience in rail or related sectors preferred.
  • Solid grasp of electrical fundamentals, fault diagnosis, analyses, and design. Knowledge of rail products and testing systems.
  • Familiarity with engineering standards and regulations such as RSSB, RISAS, RISQS, TFL/LUL.
  • Proficient in CAD systems, specifically NX and Teamcenter.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Travel to the UK and global locations as required to support VTGB and VT projects.
  • Conduct condition assessments and failure analyses, producing reports for internal and customer purposes.
  • Achieve all mandatory training requirements and mentor/train personnel as needed.
  • Assist purchasing with supplier selection and assessment.
  • Support the Quality Manager as required in quality-related activities.
  • Act as special process coordinator for wiring, ensuring compliance with safety standards through process audits.

Location: Croydon, UK
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (36.5 hours per week)
