Job description

Job Introduction

Fixed term contract until 31 March 2025

At BCP Council, our greatest asset is our people….  This is a truly fantastic opportunity to join a modern and progressive large unitary council formed in 2019. We are a fast-paced organisation with an exciting change and transformation programme well underway, a lot has already been achieved but our ambitions to modernise and innovate continue.

As Employee Relations Lead, you will manage your team to deliver a first-class responsive employee relations (ER) service to the council.  As a subject matter expert in ER, you’ll have the knowledge and expertise to determine what each case requires, to deliver timely and pragmatic support to services. Your expertise will cover investigations, appeals, policy development, preparing conciliation and employment tribunals and with your solution-focused approach, you’ll bring strong quality assurance to improve case management and develop lessons learned.

Your excellent communication skills will also equip you to inspire your team and you will also connect with all stakeholders including service leaders and managers, business partners, legal and other partners as necessary. The ability and confidence to take decisions, whilst appraising the risk and impact to the council, will be a fundamental skill which is required on a day-to-day basis in this role.  If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

Our Benefits

We offer an excellent benefits package to colleagues. Find out more on our website.

As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation and colleagues joining us will be included in these changes. This is expected to be in place in 2024.
