Sumer Law is intended to be a client facing private practice offering that sits within the Sumer Group. We are building a significant competitive advantage as we acquire accountancy practices across the UK. SME clients of those practices need legal services, and we therefore have a unique opportunity for an experienced and commercially minded Employment Solicitor to help us service those client needs.

Sitting at the juncture of our central hub support team, our accountancy hubs and our clients, this is a rare opportunity for a technically proficient yet entrepreneurial solicitor to not only deliver great outcomes for clients, but to help build a professional services business that champions SMEs right across the UK.

This is a flexible role and is open to candidates in any location in the UK. You will be part of a remote Sumer Law team but will have the opportunity to have a hybrid working arrangement with one of our accountancy hubs in your area.

Who we are looking for:

• A qualified Employment Solicitor with a minimum of 3 years’ PQE.
• Technically proficient with the ability to manage their own workload and client output with minimal supervision.
• Obsessed with delivering the best possible client outcomes and offering a proactive, consultative client experience.
• A high degree of commercial competency with the interest and desire to build an employment department within a group of accountancy practices.
• A growth mindset: motivated by an alternative career path that whilst still reliant on delivering a private practice service to clients, also involves developing a business.

Key responsibilities:

• Drafting and advising on director, employment & consultancy agreements.
• Developing staff handbooks and policies.
• Providing board-level advice on employment matters and HR procedures including terminations, redundancies, performance management, and post-termination restrictions
• Assisting on corporate transactions involving employment law elements (e.g. TUPE)
• Navigating employee disputes and consulting on and drafting settlement agreements.
• Structuring and advising on employee benefits.
• Developing a precedents bank and legal practice notes for use within the group
