The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity for an established senior energy lawyer to join a top 100 law firm. The role sits in the firms Green Energy practice and the ideal candidate will be instrumental in assisting its further growth. The team currently has 12 Partners and is looking for an exceptional Partner to help drive the department forward.

The firm are open to candidates from private practice, in-house energy organisation, or from a energy regulator public sector background. They will also look at candidates looking to step up from Senior Associate to Partner level. Following is not required, but desire to business develop is essential.

The firm have offices in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester, Southampton, and Taunton (they are open to all locations). They are also completely flexible on amount of time spent in the office.

The Department - Green Energy

The firms specialist cross-disciplinary team of solicitors has been involved in the low carbon arena for many years and has extensive experience of delivering seamless, sector-focused legal advice on all aspects of Energy generation. They provide a 'one-stop shop' for their clients, many of whom they have a long-standing relationship with, and they work with operators, contractors, investors, landowners and local authorities.

The nationally rated Green Energy team takes pride in staying up to date with developments in the industry. They have built long standing partnerships in the renewable sector over the last 20 years and are retained to act for biogas operators; district heating scheme companies; wind and solar farm developers; and their agricultural clients who have diversified amongst others. Their experience has grown considerably and look forward to supporting new green energy developments including tidal, and hydrogen in the coming years.

Relevant Expertise

The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in:

  • Specialising in wholesale market trading arrangements in relation to energy commodities, route to market and power purchase arrangements.
  • Advising developers, utilities, corporates and financiers on all regulatory and commercial matters relating to energy projects, including power purchase, grid connection arrangements, optimisation and subsidy regimes for renewable generation and battery storage projects and also including familiarity with Ofgem rules and procedures.
  • All forms of route to market arrangements within the power sector and associated regulatory matters, including the contract for difference, capacity market and ROC/FIT schemes and accreditations.

The Role is right for you if:

  • You have at least six years of post-qualification experience, you will have established strong client relationships within the energy sector.
  • You will be technically excellent but equally important, commercially aware. The firm are looking for someone who has strong client links and preferably a guaranteed following. However, if you have strong business development skills, the experience and confidence to develop and build business from existing clients as well as attracting new clients from other areas of practice across the firm and the wider business community, the firm would be keen to hear from you.
  • You will be a team player with excellent communication skills and drive. They undertake high quality, high profile and complex work.
