An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ENGAGE Youth Worker to join the Bromley Youth Justice Service (YJS), reporting to the Prevention Practice Manager. We are looking for a highly motivated practitioner with experience of effectively engaging and supporting older children, some of whom may have complex needs.
The role will be based within Bromley Metropolitan Police custody suite, in the community and in the Youth Justice Service where the post holder will be engaging children (aged 10 to 17 years) arrested without charge. Through the process of completing a comprehensive screening and assessment of need, the post holder will support children to make their own decisions about changes they may make to avoid future contact with the youth justice system. In achieving this, the post holder will be guided by approved screening and assessment tools which will inform SMART plans tailored to the individual needs of each child, taking account of diversity and with a key emphasis on prevention of offending and ensuring outcomes are achieved within identified timescales.
By working in a child first, restorative way which encompasses the Bromley Relationship Model, the post holder will ensure improved outcomes and life chances for children and their families, The post holder will support children to engage with their education, to access universal services and constructive activities.
Services will be delivered in accordance with the requirements of the ENGAGE grant agreement between Croydon Youth Justice Services (also representing Bromley and Sutton) and MOPAC.
The post holder will be part of the Bromley Youth Justice Service Prevention practice offer and will work in partnership with Bromley Early Help, Social Care, Education, Health and the voluntary sector, as well as the wider Youth Justice Service. They will also work as part of the three borough Engage team with colleagues in Croydon and Sutton including the Engage Practice Lead in Croydon.
The service has its main office base within the multi-disciplinary Youth Justice Service in Bromley South but outreach work and working in other locations will be necessary. Bromley offers comprehensive support, supervision, training and development to all staff and this will include the Bromley Relationship Model of practice which is applied across Bromley Children’s Social Care.
Essential to the role is experience of working with older children with complex needs and a relevant qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Probation, Education or similar. The successful candidate will be dynamic and persevering in their work, naturally inquisitive with excellent communication skills and ability to engage children and families and work in partnership with key stakeholders.
