Job Description Summary
We have an exciting opportunity as an Engagement Manager, working closely with the Head of Engagement, Senior Engagement Manager and the wider specialist
Job Description
  • JOB TITLE: Engagement Manager, Group Environmental Sustainability
  • LOCATION(S): Edinburgh, Bristol, or Leeds,
  • SALARY: £57,546 - £63,940
  • HOURS: Full-time
  • WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
Passionate about forging the journey towards a sustainable future and supporting the UK’s ambition to be net zero by 2050?
The Group Environmental Sustainability ('GES') team is pivotal to the Group, helping to halt and reverse nature loss and reduce the emissions we finance by more than 50 per cent by 2030, supporting the UK’s ambition to be net zero by 2050. The team plays a central role in support of our ambitious goals through working with our customers, Government, and the market.
We have an exciting opportunity as an Engagement Manager, working closely with the Head of Engagement, Senior Engagement Manager and the wider specialist team. You'll be directly involved in leading our Group-wide Environmental Sustainability education strategy and activities, to build knowledge and capability across the Group and support the embedding of Environmental Sustainability into actions and decision making. You'll lead our internal colleague communications strategy as part of that education programme, to build knowledge, engagement and advocacy, as well as co-ordinating or supporting wider GES engagement activities with colleagues and external stakeholders as required. You'll influence, establish relationships, educate and work with a very broad group of people internally and externally.
What you'll be doing
You’ll need to be an excellent communicator – both written and oral – with experience of adapting your communications to a wide range of audiences. You’ll work well with a variety of people and be experienced in building and developing positive relationships. Your primary focus will be to utilise external insights to influence and develop our Group-wide Environmental Sustainability education strategy, including training programme delivery, use of external content providers and leading our colleague communications. You will coordinate Group-wide GES events and deliver wider GES engagement activities as the need arises.
Communication skills and the ability to explain complex subjects in a simple and easily understandable manner are critical, as you will be engaging and influencing stakeholders of all levels. Existing knowledge of Environmental Sustainability issues, our ambitions, targets and strategies would be beneficial, but is not essential if you're self-motivated and have the ability to learn quickly.
  • Lead the design, development and delivery of the Group-wide Environmental Sustainability education programme to increase knowledge, capability and skills across all levels and areas of the organisation, including the refresh of existing training and materials
  • Working with the Learning Team and other internal colleagues, help to identify Environmental Sustainability training needs, training solutions and measurement of training impact
  • Advise on and influence specific business unit Environmental Sustainability training to ensure it fully supports the ambitions and objectives of the Group
  • Work closely with the Learning Team to lead the panel of external Environmental Sustainability training providers, to regularly evaluate the quality of the training provision and to advise on and lead any changes needed to the panel members to meet training needs
  • Lead our informal colleague communications strategy and campaigns for Environmental Sustainability as part of the overarching education programme, using multiple media and channels to maximise our audience reach to drive engagement and advocacy
  • Support the delivery of Group-wide GES events
  • Evaluate the training and continuing professional development needs of the GES team and design (where appropriate) and deliver, or identify and make available, relevant training, resources and events
  • Input into (as needed) relevant Group-wide external consultation responses
  • Support with briefings, as needed, for Senior Executives up to CEO-level for meetings and events
  • Support or lead on workstreams, as needed, to help embed Environmental Sustainability knowledge and activity across the Group
We expect to be working in a hybrid manner with some key meetings and collaboration based predominantly in London, but travel to other sites may be required.
What you’ll need
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills – written and oral
  • Able to convey complex subjects simply, adapting your style and approach based on the audience
  • Evidence of strong and positive relationship management and development
  • Evidence of collaborating across internal and external teams to deliver initiatives for mutual benefit
  • Desire for a career in a fast paced, strategic environment
