Engineer (Cloud Service, Engineering Lead)

This role will drive the design and implementation of the next generation Ingress Gateway control plane and data plane. Reporting to the Cloud Platform Technology Lead and will work with our Container Platform Engineering lead, who is our domain technical expert with deep knowledge on Kubernetes technology, systems, and trajectory of innovation.

You'll be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing service mesh architecture within our cloud infrastructure. The role will oversee the application and platform engineering function, working closely with the cross-functional teams, and stakeholders to ensure the stability, scalability, and efficiency of the platform.

What you’ll be doing

• Collaboratively develop and drive the overall Cloud and Hybrid Service mesh engineering strategy, aligning it with organizational goals and industry best practices.
• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing platform engineering team.
• Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the team, promoting continuous learning and development.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product and security, to ensure a holistic approach to platform engineering.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Oversee the management of a run-time environment of containerized applications using Kubernetes, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Stay abreast of emerging threats and technologies to proactively address potential risks.
• Design and guide the implementation of resilient and scalable solutions across multiple cloud platforms.
• Oversee integration and automation of security processes and security controls into the CI/CD pipeline.

About you

We need someone with expertise in the following:

• Experience building and leading large scale distributed systems especially in cloud environments.
• Strong knowledge with network technologies such as TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination and HTTP proxies.
• Experience building and designing services using Istio, Gloo technologies.
• Experience and passion for service ownership, building reliable self-healing services.
• Hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure management, with expertise in Kubernetes across AWS , Azure and Openshift technologies.
• Experience using observability tools and metrics to drive operational excellence.
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration systems like Kubernetes.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
