Engineering Manager, HV Electrical

Full Time – US, UK, Germany or Slovakia

We are seeking a seasoned Engineer with 15+ years’ experience in designing hardware for high voltage electrical equipment (specifically plasma generating), building and operating the associated test equipment and leading high technology projects/ project teams. The ideal candidate will be equally well versed in design, analysis and test along with team and project management.

Job Duties:

  • Design, analysis, and test of high voltage plasma generating equipment specifically targeted at drilling of hard rock.
  • Build, develop and lead world class technical team and oversee day to day activities.
  • Establish industry leading research and test capabilities and coordinate activities.
  • Implement internal processes and team culture that promote and ensure technical excellence.
  • Forge relationships with industry and academic partners and coordinate joint developments projects and research.
  • Present technical advances to academia and industry at conferences
  • Define and implement technical strategy and project plans using company stage-gate processes and provide regular progress updates to company leadership.
  • Manage risk (technical and HSE) for assigned projects / teams / facilities.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and technical specifications.
  • Work closely with CTO, Head of Product Management and Project Management to ensure all business objectives are met.
  • Support a positive and proactive HSE culture and ensure that all activities adhere to HSE Policy.
  • Collaborate with other business functions, including QHSE, procurement, manufacturing, and quality.


Position Requirements:

  • 15+ years of relevant Engineering experience
  • Full cycle experience - design, analysis, build, test, and commercialization of high voltage electrical equipment
  • Demonstrable project management experience with projects at low TRL
  • Ability to scope, design, build and operate test equipment for high voltage electrical equipment
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team to execute a project plan.
  • Drilling, rock mechanics (geology) and/or downhole tool experience advantageous
  • Willingness to get ‘hands dirty’ and travel to ensure project goals are met.
  • Working knowledge of INVENTOR 3D CAD, AUTODESK VAULT, CFD/FEA and circuit simulation and schematic software necessary
  • Ability to offer and receive constructive feedback towards the goal of a better, more reliable product
  • Education – BSME / MSME
  • The position is preferably based in Bristol (UK). However, the position could also be hosted at one of our other international locations - Bratislava (Slovakia), Dresden (Germany)
