SalaryThe School of Science and Engineering has a wide range of engineering laboratories and workshops which support teaching in Biomedical, Civil, Mechanical, and Industrial Engineering and Physics.
We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Engineering Technical Managerwithin our Team. The Engineering Technical Manager is a vital role as part of the School Senior Professional Services Team with responsibility for the provision and delivery of high-quality technical services, laboratory management, and operational support for education, industrial engagement, and research activities within the School.
With responsibility across multiple buildings and supporting multiple academic disciplines they take responsibility for leading the highest standards of technical service to academic staff and students, the role holder will proactively identify ways to improve service to meet day-to-day changing demands in a complex laboratory environment. This post is critical with regards to service delivery across our Engineering Technical services and will manage operational budgets and resources to meet key strategic objectives for the school.
Your priorities will include:
- Provide leadership and management of a large team of technical staff including on-going coaching, training and mentoring, managing objectives, activities, and critical timelines to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Lead the team to support students undertaking practical work, laboratory practical activities and research projects in Physics and Engineering Disciplines.
- Continually look for ways to streamline Engineering Technical services and operations to ensure delivery of fit- for-purpose and robust services for staff and students.
Who we're looking for:
- Knowledge and understanding of the key issues facing higher education in Scotland and how they relate to the University.
- Technical expertise in engineering and/or laboratory settings.
- Knowledge of industry standards, good practice, and legislation in relation to managing engineering operations
- Excellent liaison skills, with the ability to manage complex relationships with a wide range of individuals (including senior staff) within the University and externally.
- Leadership ability and versatile interpersonal skills to support and build cohesive teams.
