We are inviting applications for the role of Functional Skills English Tutor within the Offender Learning Sector. This is a unique opportunity to contribute positively to the lives of individuals in a prison education setting, helping them to enhance their English literacy skills and supporting their future employment prospects upon release.
Day to day of the role:
• Mentor learners to develop their English reading and writing skills within a secure environment.
• Deliver focused and supportive education in small class sizes.
• Collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals, Student Support Workers, and prisoner peer mentors.
• Employ a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and needs.
• Motivate and inspire learners to realise their potential in English literacy.
• Maintain a patient, passionate, and understanding approach to teaching, recognising the diverse backgrounds of learners.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
• GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• A teaching qualification such as PGCE or Cert Ed is desirable, but not essential.
• Experience in teaching or tutoring English with a focus on functional skills is advantageous.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a secure and sometimes challenging environment.
• A commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of learners.
