Job Introduction

We have a brilliant opportunity for an Environmental Health Practitioner to join our Primary Authority Team.

This busy and fast-paced team operates 83 partnerships with national and international businesses, providing support and advice with legislative compliance and best practice across catering, hospitality, retail and service sectors.

You’ll work collaboratively on projects to support our partners on a range of Environmental Health matters, particularly food hygiene and health and safety.

As well as being qualified, you’ll be able to demonstrate competency under the Food Law Code of Practice and have thorough working knowledge of health and safety legislation.

Main Responsibility

  • Work closely with our Primary Authority partners and provide advice and information on a range of Environmental Health matters, particularly Food Hygiene and Health and Safety.
  • Review and audit Partners’ procedures and documents and provide formal Primary Authority Advice.
  • Handle sensitive third party data and information requiring a high degree of discretion and business confidentiality.
  • Undertake site visits and meetings with Partners.
  • Responsible for responding to queries and complaints from other local authorities, including notifications of proposed formal actions.

The Ideal Candidate

  • An enthusiastic and suitably qualified Environmental Health professional (EHRB or CIEH Registered Environmental Health practitioner or equivalent). You must hold suitable qualifications to demonstrate you are food competent under the Food law Code of Practice and have a thorough working knowledge of health and safety legislation.
  • Experience as an authorised officer in food safety and health and safety matters and be familiar with the wide range of enforcement powers in such roles.
  • Experience of assessing and auditing business management systems, including Food Safety Management Systems, HACCP, Health and Safety Policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • A team player who can work collaboratively to achieve shared goals and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, effectively manage your workload and take initiative. You will have an eye for detail and ability to work accurately at pace.
  • For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence and provide evidence of your vehicle insurance with business cover and use of a vehicle. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role.

Package Description

In addition to your salary, we offer a range of benefits including:

  • Great holiday benefits - most roles include 28 days annual leave every year on top of public (bank) holidays, increasing to 32 days after five years.  In addition, there is a holiday purchase scheme allowing staff to purchase up to 5 additional days of leave each year.
  • Excellent pension – everyone who works for us can join the national Local Government Pension Scheme, widely regarded as one of the best available.
  • A full range of family friendly policies including enhanced maternity, adoption and paternity support and a childcare subsidy.
  • Access to an award-winning employee benefits programme that includes a health cash plan, a low-cost bike purchase scheme as well as high street discounts and money off entertainment and travel.
  • Blue Light Card - employees working within social care can qualify for an additional range of discounts from national retailers and local businesses.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
