We are seeking an Environment Incident Advisor to join our busy team. The team’s goal is to minimise the impact of Thames Water’s operations on the environment.
The purpose of the role is to investigate and report on pollution incidents. Through a thorough investigation the role will understand the underlying issues and recommend and share learning points throughout the business. These recommendations will include driving procedural change to improve operational performance.  
A key activity is to carry out pollution challenges with the regulator, providing accurate, technical information to enable the challenge to be successful.  The role involves effective and influential communication with the EA and across all levels of management and teams within Thames Water.  As we move into 2024, this role will proactively provide information to the EA to ensure that accurate categorisation of incidents happens before they are reported on NIRS, to minimise the need for pollution challenges due to missing information.

What you’ll be doing as Environment Incident Advisor
  • Supply and analyse information to satisfy the complex needs of the team and external clients.
  • Investigate pollution incidents and prepare summary reports and challenges.
  • Interpret scientific reports and data regarding environmental impact.
  • Investigate all pollution incidents to ensure they are recorded correctly with the regulator and write challenge documents where anomalies are identified.
  • Improve internal communications across our operations in respect of environmental issues, supporting the provision of advice and direction via training, presentations and reports.
  • Coach and sponsor others in own area of expertise.
  • Represent the company in meeting with stakeholders to build awareness externally, regulate their activities or maintain the reputation of the Thames Water brand.
  • Engage and liaise with the Environmental Agency in respect to live and historical pollution incidents.
  • Travel within Thames Water’s catchment area for the purposes of investigation and to meet with other teams.
Base Location: Hybrid-Maple Lodge (STW) - WD3 9SQ
Working hours: Monday-Friday 36 hours per week.
What you should bring to the role
  • Previous experience in an applicable sector would be advantageous
  • Ability to understand Environmental Legislation or Regulations. (for example CICS, 16_02)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to project manage
  • Ability to work to deadlines is essential
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • A full UK driving licence
