POSITION: EP Powertrain Strategy Senior Manager

This leadership position is responsible for setting Powertrain Strategy for all propulsion major units and their applications into JLR Vehicles aimed at delivering a future proof, fully competitive, fully compliant and fully integrated set of Propulsion Product Road Maps.

 

You will be part of the wider Propulsion leadership team developing the best working environment for our people, focused on our Creators Code behaviours, and with a keen eye on the growth and development of yourself and your team.

THE ROLE
Key Responsibilities

 

Be responsible for working with key stakeholders to develop:

  • Customer focussed Product Road Maps and visions for Propulsions systems and technologies looking out to a 10-year horizon - aligned to North Star approach for both BEV and Hybrid Propulsion systems
  • Updated Product Road Maps to ensure competitiveness, and developing research projects for Propulsion Systems
  • High Level delivery plans for the 7-year period of the Business Plan and Cycle Plan for all major Propulsion Commodities and Applications
  • Plans for compliance to known and upcoming legislation, integrating requirements into commodity and Propulsion system plans
  • Aligned technical targets for programmes through to gateways at QBR/Product Committee, working closely with the V-organisation to align across Product Strategy, Vehicle Engineering, Industrial Operations and Finance
  • An aligned business plan for EP organisation – resource, investment, accommodation plans
  • Strategic co-operations with other OEMs
  • As well as undertaking any other work as directed by the Director of Propulsion

 

Key Interactions

 

The individual will be required to build open relationships with stakeholders and become the “go to” person for Powertrain plans, the drivers behind decisions taken and the instigator of responses to market and competitive changes.

 

Key stakeholders for this role are:
 

  • Powertrain Director and Chief Engineer of Powertrain BEV and xHEV Domains
  • EP Commodity Chief Engineers and Programme leaders
  • Vehicle Programme CPEs, Programme Managers and VLDs, including XCL VLD team
  • Product Strategy for linkages and connection to vehicle plans
  • Powerpack teams for all functions and technical delivery
  • Powerpack Innovation and Research Teams

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

  • Expertise in the field of all current & future Propulsion System technologies and strong technical and development experience
  • Significant experience in Propulsion Electrification - development and delivery (hardware development and / or software development)
  • Experience in research and development of new powertrain concepts and commodities
  • Highly skilled communicator, able to understand complex issues and communicate them succinctly to non-experts and make a compelling case for actions that will deliver for JLR customers and the JLR business
  • Direct experience of the product creation & delivery process
  • Proven experience of managing large networks of multifunctional partners to deliver aligned proposals
  • Proven ability to lead a resolution of the key technical issues within a team environment
  • Experience of building, guiding and developing successful teams
  • Ability to communicate and present to Executive directors and Board level representatives

 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
 

  • Financial management (planning, management, investment)
  • Appropriate technical certifications (CISM, CISSP, CTIA, etc.)
  • Experience and practitioner of Agile working (e.g. SAFe, Scrum, etc), plus waterfall and hybrid delivery.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working in a global role, with knowledge and expertise of managing on a global basis.

 

Personal Profile

 

The role requires exemplary influencing and leadership skills to develop plans and demonstrate that they meet the needs of JLR’s Customers and Corporate requirements, aligning stakeholders to gain approval and commitment.

 

The holder of this role will need to show and ability to build a broad knowledge of all Powertrain Technologies, incorporate knowledge from EP experts, and present integrated proposals on behalf of the Powertrain team with clarity, integrity and credibility.
