Job description

This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College. In order to comply with our mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based HR Team.
This role is pro rata, so the salary you will be receiving is £8,642.64 per annum.
Background to the Post
During recent years, the College has continued to grow and diversify in order to meet the demands placed upon it by government initiatives, community developments and financial considerations. In order to keep pace with changes and to address the needs of students in the 21st Century, the College has embarked upon a number of initiatives and from 2007, the College operates at six main centres throughout Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
The growth in terms of student intake has put very real pressure upon the maintenance of buildings, grounds and services, caretaking, security, portering and cleaning; and has shown the need for a high level of teamwork, flexibility, loyalty and co-operation. Any person appointed as an Estate Warden will be part of the Estates and Facilities Management team and will support in keeping the College buildings and grounds in the best possible condition and appearance, as well as ensuring the necessary support to all other staff, including their safety.
The work will involve a wide range of duties, and hours of work that will vary on a weekly cycle between early morning starts and late evening finishes, including some weekend working. Specific duties will vary according to the times of the day when on duty and will be assigned by the Facilities Manager who will be responsible to the Estates Operations Manager for the effective and efficient service provision.
Duties and Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible to the Facilities Manager for the carrying out of Estates Warden duties, utilising the College Helpdesk to ensure all tasks are completed within agreed time scales in a pleasant and efficient manner.
1. Security of premises and its contents, including opening up and locking up,
operation of fire and intruder alarms and key holder responsibilities.
2. Security patrols of buildings, car parks and grounds to help in providing a safe
working environment for staff, students and visitors, and including the recording
and dealing with incidents, misconduct and misuse of equipment / facilities, liaison
with the Police and escorting trespassers from the premises. Manning and
operation of CCTV systems internally and externally.
3. Carry out regular fire bell checks, shower run offs, emergency light checks and
other routine premises tasks as requested.
4. Responding to radio calls promptly, using appropriate radio etiquette and
ensuring continuity of response and cover throughout the shift.
5. Driving of College vehicles, including minibuses, between sites and to other
events may be required.
6. To assist with traffic control in the College car parks and roads, dealing with
inappropriately parked vehicles and putting out reserved parking signs.
7. Building services, maintenance and handypersons’ duties including painting,
hanging whiteboards, pin boards and pictures, replacing tubes and bulbs,
repairing locks and assisting Maintenance with any tasks within your capabilities.
This may include working at heights.
8. Cleaning of premises as directed, removal of rubbish, litter picking and
monitoring on the site.
9. Perform janitorial duties as required including removal of graffiti, renewal of toilet
rolls, hand towels, soap, etc.
10. Portering duties including movement of furniture, arranging of rooms for
examinations, meetings, events etc. and movement of plant, equipment and
materials as required utilising the correct equipment and manual handling
techniques.
11. To assist with the receiving and signing of goods from outside suppliers, their
delivery to appropriate College locations and assisting with the internal
movement of printed materials across the College, complying with any laid down
procedures.
12. To utilise the College’s internal computer systems to action helpdesk tasks,
book annual leave, keep up to date with activities within the College and receive
and send e-mails.
13. Clearing of snow / ice in winter and the spreading of salt / sand on roadways
and paths.
14. Carrying out first aid duties as required whilst on shift.
15. To respond to emergencies outside of normal College hours and to work at
other Centres as required.
16. To assist, as required, in sorting of mail each morning and other Reception
duties including directing visitors and the giving / receiving of messages.
17. To assist in ensuring the internal and external cleanliness of College vehicles
and a weekly check on the condition of tyres, fluid levels, lights and battery etc,
if required to do so.
18. Occasional accompanying of the cashier to the bank and delivery of parcels /
recorded / registered post to the Post Office.

Essential Attainments
● Experience and knowledge of the main duties.
● Able to demonstrate ‘handypersons’ skills.
● Full UK driving licence free from major endorsements.
● Qualified First Aider or willingness to undertake qualification.
● Experience of working to Health and Safety standards and legislation.
● Basic IT skills.
● Experience of shift working and working alone.
● Prepared to take mini bus driving assessment.
