We are happy to be recruiting for one of our high-profile utilities clients. They are currently looking for an Ethical Case Handler to join them for an initial 6-month contract. However, there may be scope for extension.

Job Purpose:

In the position of Ethical Case Handler, you will play a pivotal safeguarding role for the business, responsible for ensuring employees comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and ethical standards.

The role involves creation and implementation of the clients Code of Conduct / Ethics and puts in place measures and frameworks for promoting a culture of integrity and ethics. Alongside your responsibilities for investigations and addressing of any alleged violations of the Code of Conduct and other ethical standards, you will conduct tests of effectiveness over key operational and fraud and bribery controls in place to mitigate principal risk exposure.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deliver on your annual program of work to time, cost and quality.
  • Undertake and manage the compliance assurance activities spanning:
    • The Compliance Return,
    • Annual Certificate of Assurance
    • Conflicts of Interest declarations
    • Gifts and Hospitality declarations
    • Key Fraud and Bribery controls.
  • Investigate potential areas of non-compliance, tracking, monitoring and supporting the business to implement risk mitigation measures as necessary.
  • Support business leads with action plan remediation to ensure actions achieve their objectives in a timely manner escalating high/medium risks to accountable owners where timelines may be compromised.
  • Conduct risk-based assurance and consulting services activities over key operational (non-finance) controls to enhance governance, risk and controls management processes and ensure controls are effectively operated whilst identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Manage the compliance incident process, ensuring coordination and alignment of subject matter experts spanning multiple disciplines and 1st line representatives.
  • Working across functional lines (Legal, Finance, HR, Audit) to develop and enhance our Code of Ethics.
  • Develop guidance, training, and support to employees at all levels across the business on the Code of Conduct / Ethics.
  • Develop and execute internal campaigns to promote the Code of Ethics, Conflict of Interest declaration and Gifts and Hospitality requirements.
  • Responsible for conducting investigations on any alleged violations of the Code of Conduct / Ethics or other ethical standards, ensuring that appropriate corrective actions are taken.
  • Collaborate with wider functions e.g. General Council & Company Secretary and People & Culture, to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Responsible for end-to-end process and documentation on all ethics/business conduct investigations, including recommendations, and ensuring robust maintenance of sensitive documentation.
  • Manage anti-retaliation programme and necessary monitoring or follow up activities.
  • Maintain an effective external whistleblowing relationship and system to enable employees to raise concerns about potential ethical violations.
  • Identifying external and internal Assurance and Compliance best practice and setting in place continuous improvement activities to advance maturity.
  • Manage, coach and mentor colleagues within direct team.
  • Establishing robust reporting methodologies and communicating performance results throughout the business.
  • Develop and maintain internal reporting for Executive Management and Board reporting requirements spanning Compliance, Code of Ethics case management, Fraud and Bribery controls testing assurance, Conflict of Interest and Gifts and Hospitality declarations.
  • Management of the UK Ethics and Compliance Champions
  • Implement and manage a Speak Up Policy, Anti-Retaliation Policy, Fraud Response Plan, Investigation Principles.

Serve as SME and point of contact for investigations related inquiries spanning Ethics, Business Conduct, conflict-of-interest and gifts and hospitality matters.

Technical/Specialist Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of providing high quality and sound professional assurance management across a large-scale function.
  • Deep understanding of the energy sector - including the structure, regulatory environment and the short and long-term issues and opportunities relating to the industry
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of Compliance, business conduct / ethics programmes and Reporting Frameworks
  • Expert knowledge of the Assurance Frameworks, ensuring coverage of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence
  • Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate, influence and challenge across all disciplines and levels within the organisation, and a proven track record in developing effective relationships across the organisation.

Location:

This is a hybrid working role, with a requirement to work from the clients Warwick office as and when required.

Working hours:

Standard working hours with some flex where required.
