Job description

As our new Executive Director of Children and Young People’s Services you will be an influential leader in the county council and the wider Suffolk system. You will help shape and bring to life our ambitions for Children and Young people. You will be a vital member of our Corporate Leadership Team, with an opportunity to make a positive lasting impact on the lives of Children and Young people in Suffolk.

As our designated DCS, you will fulfil the full range of statutory responsibilities and lead an exciting portfolio of Children and Young people’s services across a large and diverse county.

Initial priorities will include:

  • SEND – reviewing our improvement plans to deliver at pace our response to the recent Ofsted/CQC inspection, and to create better experiences for Children and families
  • Transformation – leading the transformation of Children’s services to ensure that the council can sustainably meet current and future need
  • Children’s Social Care – continuous improvement of our social care services to ensure we are effective and fit for the future 
  • Education – Working with partners, schools and education-providers to improve education attainment across the county, at all levels

About You

As Executive Director of Children and Young People’s Services you’ll be in a unique position. This role therefore calls for a high-potential leader – perhaps you are a current DCS looking for an opportunity to scale-up, or an experienced Assistant / Deputy / Service Director who is seeking the right position to step-up.

With proven transformation experience, you will be outcome-focused and will provide visible and strong leadership to deliver on our vision and ambition for the Children and Young people of Suffolk.
