Job description

Are you imaginative and creative?

Do you have experience of working with children and young people who have severe learning disabilities?

You'll join us as an Extended Curriculum Coordinator at our children's home in St Albans, where we support five young people aged 11 to 18. The young people all have learning disabilities and/or autism, and complex needs. We encourage them to learn new skills, continue their education at school or college, and get out and about in the local community, developing new interests and hobbies.

Your role will be to devise evening, weekend and holiday activities, promoting learning, engagement, interaction and fun.

Activities will be bespoke to each young person, drawing on their individual interests and aptitudes. You'll work with the Registered Manager to ensure that the activities are properly evaluated and monitored.

This role is 21 hours a week, with shifts agreed which will cover days, evenings and weekends.

About you

You must have experience of working with children and young people who have severe learning disabilities. It would be a big advantage if this experience was in a special school or residential setting.

You'll be able to identify and reach appropriate goals, solving problems in a flexible way appropriate for each young person.

It would be helpful if you have a relevant professional qualification or the ability to work towards one.

You must be a driver with your own transport which is insured for business use.
