Are you an External Communications specialist, able to convey complex messages in an easy to understand manner? If so, we could have the role for you.
We are looking for an External Communications Manager.
The successful candidate will work for the Integrated Data Service (IDS). As a cross-government service, the IDS securely enables co-ordinated access to a range of high-quality data. This is critical to informing policy decisions and improving public services, for which the Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the lead delivery partner.
This is an exciting and challenging role, requiring an entrepreneurial initiative-taker with strong knowledge of the Government Communication Service’s best practice. The successful applicant will be comfortable taking an insight-led approach, to communicate the narrative and vision for IDS. This vacancy has come about following a successful promotion from within the team.
The External Communications Manager will deliver outstanding external communication and engagement activities. They will meet agreed communications objectives, and work with communication colleagues to develop tactical plans across all external channels. Working in a friendly, diverse, and collaborative environment, the person will be key in delivering internal communication and stakeholder engagement activities for the IDS, to relevant audiences. The successful candidate must be a collaborator, who is happy to work with colleagues to both advise and enable teams to make a real difference.
Job description
The key responsibilities of this post include, but is not limited to the following;
Support the delivery of strategic communication campaigns that motivate, drive cultural change and transformation, and build engagement with relevant stakeholders as part of the IDS community.
Collaborate with colleagues across the Communication Division to create and deliver integrated communication plans, including all existing channels; spotting new opportunities, and using cross-government networks.
Horizon scan, harvest and distil information on key developments and events across ONS and the IDS.
Researching and writing content (including technical) for the intranet, website, slide decks, social media, and related products.
Informing the evaluation of campaigns and event activity, reporting on lessons learned and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Updating relevant frameworks, to include lines-to-take, approval processes, messaging, and partnerships.
Editor of the monthly IDS newsletter, while growing sign-up numbers.
Ad hoc duties may also include co-monitoring the comms inbox, facilitating show and tells, developing briefs (from branding to events).
Motivating colleagues, building engagement, and consistently delivering quality communications work that is of the highest standard.
