Westwood Recruitment on the lookout for a Fabricator/Welder to join our client on a permanent basis in Loughborough. You will report into the Production Manager and support the creation of steel products in accordance with customer specifications by completing welding operations.
Role Responsibilities:
- Develop layouts and plan the sequence of operations.
- Apply trigonometric knowledge, accounting for thickness and welding distortion shrinkage.
- Identify and mark positions for fitting components onto the main workpiece.
- Set up and operate machine tools associated with fabrication, such as drills, grinders, and flame cutting equipment.
- Weld steel components together using electric arc-welding equipment.
- Weld to specified size and contour as indicated on layout drawings.
- Adhere to company Approved Welding Procedures, management instructions, and safe working practices.
- Maintain welding equipment, identify faults with work equipment or materials, and inform supervisors.
- Operate all necessary safety equipment and ensure correct personal protective equipment (PPE) is used at all times.
- Maintain the length of arc and speed of movement during welding to achieve the specified depth of fusion and bead.
- Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions following Approved Welding Procedures.
- Inspect welds for bead size and other specifications using a welding gauge.
- Clean and degrease weld joints or workpieces using a wire brush or hand grinder.
- Remove excess weld, slag, and splatter using a hand scraper or power chipper.
- Inspect finished products to verify compliance with specifications.
- Pre-heat workpieces using a hand torch when required.
- Adjust welding to accommodate variations in metal types, sub-processes, equipment trade names, application methods, production levels, or custom requirements.
- Sign off on fabrication drawings upon completion of assembly.
Role Requirements
- 2 year minimum in fabrication and welding experience required
- Experience with Heavy Steel is essential
- Can understand, read and interpret technical drawings
- Possess relevant qualifications and training to meet coded welding standards is preferred but not essential
