Job description

Job Title: Facilities and Technical Coordinator
Department: Operations - Facilities and Technical Team
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary Details: £23,662.03 - £27,386.79
Hours: Annualised hours, with an average of 36.25 hour per week - the role will involve working unsocial hours, weekend and bank holidays
Place of Work: Waterfront Norwich, 139-141 King Street , Norwich, NR1 1QH, and where required, Union House, University of East Anglia, Norwich, NR4 7TJ
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• To ensure a high standard of technical support for club, live music and our Student-led events .
• To lead and stage manage events as and when required.
• To safely setup and pack away equipment, staging and anything else required for events.
• To ensure all technical staff are working safely, efficiently and in accordance with Union policies, risk assessments and method statements.
• Plan, set-up and operate technical equipment to run safe events to a high standard.
• To assist advance all in the planning, organisation and safe delivery of all the technical aspects of events from “load in” to “load out.”
• To assist in ensuring all technical equipment (in-house and
hired) is properly maintained and adheres to current health and safety legislation.
• To commission work with external contractors as necessary
• To maintain a sound working knowledge of the venue and its Facilities and where necessary take immediate action to ensure a safe working environment, reporting any breaches of health and safety, risk assessments and method statements to the technical manager.
• To undertake a ‘Pre-Show’ checklist prior to every event and ensure that the technical, performance and backstage area’s is safe and ready for use.
• To assist event organisers in the operation of the venue during events.
• On the day line management of hourly-paid student technical staff and up-skilling where appropriate
• Provide guidance to and empower students to safely run their own events in their venues
• Work with student groups that use our facilities to support their events and event management
• Organise and deliver student society equipment requests
• Assist in specifying new equipment, upgrades and relevant training requirements
• Ensure regular maintenance and upkeep of the SU building and usable spaces
• Assist with annual inspections and maintenance works
• Unlocking and securing the building where required
Knowledge and Experience
• Good general education, typically to the Higher/A Level equivalent
• IOSH or NEBOSH or IPAF qualification
• Extensive and proved experience in large scale events led organisation
• Proven experience in effectively supervising members of staff on an ad-hoc basis
• Demonstrable experience of working effectively on own iniative
• Experience of managing complex projects
• High level of technical expertise in sound, lighting and event equipment
• Comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, risk management in an event based technical environment
• Good working knowledge of relevant workplace IT systems, software and hardware
• Awareness and understanding of the student-led nature of student union venues and appreciation of stakeholder management e.g. students, UEA
• Knowledge of students union in relation to relevant legislation:
○ Health and Safety
○ Working at Height
○ Risk Management
○ Employment
○ Disability Discrimination Act
○ Lifting of loads equipment regulations
