We are seeking a dedicated and versatile individual to be a vital part of our Facilities team. As a Facilities Maintenance Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our building, equipment, and services. We are looking for an individual with a proactive “can do” attitude, extensive experience in general building repair and maintenance, and a strong understanding of current health and safety legislation. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, customer-focused, and prepared to tackle new and evolving challenges with utmost professionalism.
Duties include:
  • Performing general building maintenance repair duties
  • Responding promptly to maintenance requests, plan and arrange repairs, and conduct preventive maintenance activities
  • Providing exceptional customer service and addressing inquiries from building users and customers in a courteous manner
  • Coordinating with Estates Services and external contractors as needed
  • Managing stock levels of building consumables to ensure adequate supplies
  • Conducting checks on building systems
  • Upholding compliance with health and safety policies and legislation
  • Collaborating with the Department's Safety Officers in responding to health and safety emergencies and maintaining accurate records of involvement.
Here's what we're looking for in our ideal Facilities Maintenance Technician:
  • Prior experience in building maintenance and relevant trade qualifications demonstrate expertise in the field.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety legislation and formal training ensure compliance and a safe working environment.
  • Proficiency in repairing laboratory and other equipment, including electrical and mechanical repairs, is essential.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment and respond flexibly to department needs.
  • Excellent spoken and written English, along with demonstrable IT skills, enable effective collaboration.
  • Experience working well in a team and providing good customer service is important.
  • Strong skills in managing time, prioritizing tasks, and solving problems.
  • Ability to remain calm and polite in emergency situations.
  • Eagerness to acquire specialist knowledge for competent response to building services issues.
  • Desirable: Previous experience in university research environment and ability to perform heavy lifting (training provided).
The post is available from as soon as possible and will be based in The Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics, Sherrington Building, Sherrington Rd, Oxford OX1 3PT
