A mixed 11-18 comprehensive school in a vibrant, growing community in Peterborough, seeks an enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed Family Liaison Officer for an IMMEDIATE start!

The person appointed will work closely with the schools student services team and the attendance officer in identifying those students, and families, at most risk of missing out on their education and offering bespoke support packages to those identified individuals.

This school place great emphasis on partnership and co-operation between parents, students and staff to ensure each child receives the best possible education. The culture of care and positive relationships provide students with the confidence & independence they need to succeed both inside and outside school, preparing them for life after school!

As the Family Liaison Officer:

  • To provide support to students, and their families, who are not accessing school on a regular basis.
  • To ensure students and their families feel supported by the school.
  • To provide support and guidance that promotes high quality parenting.
  • To educate and support families in accessing local and national services.
  • Able to commute to Peterborough

Main duties of the Family Liaison Officer:

  • Understand the primary rights and responsibilities of parents to raise their children, and support parents by helping them to improve their parenting skills.
  • Promote high quality at home parenting such as promoting conversations between parents and their children and encouraging authoritative rather than authoritarian discipline.
  • Support for parents and for their children with early signs of social, emotional, health or behavioural issues.
  • To provide transition support for parents/carers of children starting school and on transfer to secondary school and other life transitions where appropriate.
  • Working with parents in a school context, supporting them and building their engagement with their child's learning.
  • Encourage good relations and effective dialogue between parents and teachers about children's progress.
  • To work with school refusers / students with low attendance to encourage them back into school.
  • Advocate for parents' needs and concerns within the school, working to ensure their voices are heard and considered in decision-making processes.
