Family Support Coordinator

Location: Newark

Salary: £26,421 per annum (Pro rata)

Job Type: 12-month fixed term (With the possibility of extension)

Hours: 18 hours per week

The Role

Based in the YMCA Newark and Sherwood Community and Activity Village in Newark, you will be part of a close-knit, friendly team who work alongside volunteers and Trustees to deliver vital support services to local families.

The Family Support Coordinators are never bored! You will be at the heart of the daily operation of the amazing charity, managing your own caseload, working closely with referrers and partners and maintaining records.

You will help to recruit, train and develop the talented volunteer home visitors; matching them with families and supervising their work.

Reporting to the Manager you will work closely with other staff but also travel to visit families in their homes, assessing need, sometimes providing direct support, measuring progress, and seeing first-hand how simple interventions can turn lives around and make futures brighter. 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Good standard of education (GCSE, NVQ level 3 or equivalent)
  • Relevant previous or current employment or voluntary work, including of working with families
  • Ability to manage a caseload
  • Good IT skills, including experience with Microsoft Office packages, email, internet and video conferencing software
  • Understanding of the needs of families with young children
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues and commitment to good safeguarding practice
  • Ability to develop and deliver training (Support can be given with this)
  • Ability to support, motivate and develop volunteers
  • Promotional skills, including use of social media
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Knowledge of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and to anti-discriminatory practice
  • Understanding of the need for professional confidentiality
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Ability to travel in accordance with the needs of the role
  • Parenting experience or significant experience of caring for children
