Location: Girvan, South Carrick
Hours: 35 per week
Days: Monday - Friday
Accountability: The worker is accountable to the Board of Directors and on a day-to-day basis to the Money Advice and Family Support Manager.
Purpose of the Job: To provide early intervention and intensive Family Support to achieve improved outcomes for children, young people and families living in the South Carrick area of South Ayrshire.
General Responsibilities:
The Family Support work is designed to develop strategies for growth which respond to identified needs for individual families and young people to age 18years. This work is carried out within the context of the Promise,Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) – Wellbeing Indicators and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
1 To deliver early intervention and intensive one to one or group-work sessions to meet the needs of families and young people.
2 To develop a whole Family Support to assist parents/carers to manage their circumstances to reduce any adverse impact on their child’s care and protection.
3 To liaise/co-work with relevant agencies concerned with families in the community eg health visitor/social worker and be an active member of relevant interagency groups.
4 To record and monitor the work with families to capture the journey and provide reports which demonstrate achievement of identified outcomes.
5 To work alongside the team’s Money Advice workers to provide a holistic, integrated service for families.
6 To ensure that the work carried out is within the policies and procedures of Stepping Stones for Families.
7 To attend regular supervision sessions and meetings as appropriate.
8 To take part in and contribute to staff development activities within and out with the organisation.
9 To work in a flexible way to suit the urgent or unforeseen requirements of the organisation.
Person Specification
Essential
- Insight, understanding and empathy towards the needs of parents and an ability to understand and support parents in a non-judgemental way.
- Ability to build rapport, trust and working relationships with children, young people and the wider family.
- Proven knowledge and experience of the Promise, Getting it Right for Every Child-Wellbeing Indicators and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
- Excellent communication skills with a strong ability to listen and reflect on practice.
- Self-motivated, solution focused and positive thinker.
- Experience of working with other agencies including cross referrals and an ability to update and communicate appropriate information.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a wider team.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Proven experience of monitoring and evaluating the work and ability to submit reports demonstrating achievement of outcomes.
- Commitment to equality of opportunity and human rights.
- Qualification in Social Work; Community work; minimum SVQ4 CCLD or equivalent qualification and 2 years proven experience of working with parents in a community setting.
The post is funded by South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership until March 2025.
