SalaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join Walsall Healthcare Trust as the Band 6 Lead Midwife for Internationally educated/Fellowship Midwives and newly qualified Band 5 Midwives providing clinical and Pastoral Support.
The successful post holder will provide clinical and pastoral care in offering support to international/ Band 5 Midwives within the trust and play a key role in supporting their orientation during their initial arrival period, and lead on their induction to the clinical area.

• To provide pastoral care and offer support to the internationally educated/ Newly qualified Midwives within the trust.
• Play a key role in supporting the orientation of international midwives during the initial arrivals period and lead on induction to clinical area.
• Be a central contact for the midwives to seek signposting for support on a variety of areas such as wellbeing, accommodation, amenities, local community contacts and their spiritual care.
• Act as a supportive link between the midwives and the designated ward areas to ensure a smooth supportive induction period.
• Ensuring the designated ward areas has identified a preceptor to facilitate support and ensure buddy system in place.
• Form good working relations with key team members and wider organisational colleagues to enable quality pastoral support provision including International recruitment lead, practice and development , OSCE lead, spiritual care lead , BAME networks , Occupational health, clinical managers , matrons & their teams and Human Resources.
• To work hands in maternity with overseas recruits to ensure clinical competence and cultural induction

The trust is the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, providing inpatients and outpatients at the Manor Hospital, as well as a wide range of services in the community. Manor Hospital has 554 acute beds (501 overnight beds and 53-day case beds) and provides a wide range of services including a 24-hour accident and emergency department and maternity services.

1. Demonstrate contemporary clinical expertise in Midwifery care, working in the clinical environment supporting junior staff under direction from the Lead Band 7 Fellowship Midwife to deliver direct patient care, with a specific focus on supporting newly qualified midwives to develop the skills, knowledge and expertise required to deliver high quality safely and confidently, evidence-based care.
2. Use every opportunity to facilitate teaching, learning and reflection within the clinical area and ensure training and development needs of staff are considered in any changes in practice and service developments in order to tailor individual support.
3. To ensure training needs of Newly qualified and Internationally educated Midwives are met by providing a suitable learning environment and by engaging in clinical teaching where appropriate. To ensure and participate in preceptorship/mentorship support systems for midwives and students within the Trust.
4. To form part of the escalation process.
