The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Field Engineer with a demonstrable Mechanical background to be a staunch advocate of our Nuclear Safety Culture and help to embed this approach in all processes and activities undertaken on our clients project. The scope will cover all Works associated with the construction of the designated section of the Project and the post holder will perform surveillance on activities of the Works Contractors, this will include continuous, notified and planned surveillance.
Our client s embedded teams are delivering support in the South West and South East, helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Nuclear Power station.

The NNB Surveillance Field Engineer will Carry out Surveillance on construction activities performed by a Contractor on Nuclear Power Plant Construction Site. The Activities is relating to the Construction / Installation / Assembly of Mechanical Equipment (such as Static & Rotating Equipment, Pipes, Pipes Support, including the welding process etc).
The Role
As a Field Engineer- Mechanical, you will perform Surveillance to give confidence that the Activities are performed in accordance with the Contractor s Work Information. You will form part of a team with the primary role to deliver the Team Lead duties described in the contract and ensure that Quality needs, targets and expectations are met.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- As a Mechanical FIelds Engineer, you will check the Works are constructed in accordance with the Contractor s Work Information and notify the Construction Superintendent of deviation and non-conformance request requirements.
- Submit details of any non-conformance request requirements to assist in the issuing of non-conformance reports.
- Proactively communicate with other stakeholders of the considered scope of work, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is timely reported.
- Contribute surveillance information to support KPI indicators.
- Endeavour to identify potential Quality issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions.
- Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within Quality standards.
- Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works.
- Ensure design decisions are not taken in the field by contractors but are considered and approved via the formal Quality Process in place.
- Enhance the team with a good perspective of current and future site activities.
- Ensure tasks are developed to quality in accordance with the company s requirement for health, safety and environment.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of contractual Technical Requirements, construction drawings, construction activities, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records.
- Ensure and monitor that Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before Works are covered up.
- Review Contractor performance against the authorised Quality Control Plan.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
- A Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent) vocational training and significant experience or welding qualifications (or equivalent) vocational training and significant experience.
- Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the materials, trades methods and legal requirements.
- Broad knowledge of Quality Assurance Requirements (such as ISO9001)
- Excellent organisation and communication skills. Ability to work within a high performing team that continuously outperforms expectations and objectives.
- Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the particular form of contract.
- Good attention to detail when checking work, equipment and materials.
- Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors.
- Persuasive and diplomatic whilst remaining independent.
