About the Role

Base Location: Perth preferred however other SSEN locations considered

Salary: £53,100 - £79,700 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

In this role you will be required to develop a strategy and implement a control framework to mitigate business-wide Financial Crime Risks. This is needed to demonstrate a reasonable defence against the Failure to Prevent Fraud offence that has been recently introduced by the new Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act (ECCTA). You will report to the Head of Business Assurance and will work closely with senior stakeholders across SSEN Distribution (including ExCo) and SSE Group to establish robust controls, and to lead investigations around internal and external allegations - and possible instances - of fraud / economic crimes.

You will also:

  • Implement measures that are considered part of a reasonable defence, around: Top Level Commitment; Communication; Risk Assessment; Procedures; Due Diligence; Monitoring and Review.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Financial Crime Risk register.
  • Conduct gap analyses and develop consistent and robust procedures/controls and Red Flag Monitoring on areas of high fraud / economic Crime Risk.
  • Represent SSEN Distribution in various Group-wide forums as Business Anti-Financial Crime Officer (BAFCO)
  • Undertake complex data analysis from multiple sources to identify possible instances of fraud and ensure that conclusive outcomes are arrived at.
  • Engage the MD and Distribution Executive Committee on a regular basis to ensure that they have full visibility and understanding of most severe Financial Crime Risks and the effectiveness of controls / further mitigations needed.
  • Ensure that enhanced due diligence on high-risk third parties is conducted and that HMT financial sanction screening is undertaken on all parties we routinely transact with.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts at SSE Group level, staying up-to-date with evolving fraudulent techniques and technologies, proactively identifying potential risks and implementing strategies to prevent them.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to:

  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent vocational qualifications and work experience.
  • Hold a Financial Crime Prevention Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Have a deep understanding of Anti-Financial Crime laws, risks and mitigation strategies, with experience of conducting investigations into allegations of fraud.
  • Have experience working in the energy industry or other highly regulated environment.
  • Be resilient, with the strength of character and professional integrity to provide objective assessment of fraudulent behaviour.
