I’m currently recruiting for a Fire Safety and Compliance Manager that sits within our Assets & Facilities department. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team that embeds best practices in health and safety across the EMR estates including Depots, Stations and offices.

As the professional subject matter expert, you will ensure business wide compliance with Fire Safety Regulations offering technical advice, legislative determinations, and guidance as the professional of Fire Protection.

What you be responsible for:

  • Be accountable for interfacing with the Health and Safety function to develop and implement Fire Safety strategy, culture, and procedures, embedding best practice and Compliance across the East Midlands Railway estate.
  • Provide a professional, first class, consistent and effective fire management service to our stakeholders, provide up to date information/data on Fire Safety related KPI's and provide commentary in weekly/ compliance meetings and any reporting needed for DfT & other external Bodies.
  • Implement a business wide fire training programme interfacing with L&D to ensure that staff of different grades will be trained and competent to ensure compliance.
  • Support the delivery of the business plan commitments for the Portfolio so that reliable, cost effective and sustainable hard and soft services are provided in accordance with industry best practice.
  • Participate in the development of continuous improvements to processes and develop strong collaborative relationships with Network Rail and other deliverers where work impacts assets.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with regional fire and rescue service providers and other enforcing authorities, including being the key point of contact for Local Authority.

What we’ll need from you:

    • Holds an appropriate qualification, Level 6 health and safety qualification or NEBOS
    • Accreditation to (or working towards) one of the Fire Risk Assessor National Register recognised by Paradigm which are: IFSM, IFE, FRACS.
    • Good working knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act and full understanding of the current and upcoming UK fire legislation and the ability to use Fire Safety guidance documents.
    • Strong technical knowledge and experience of carrying out Fire Risk Assessment programmes, remediation, and upgrade programmes.
    • Experience in a Fire Safety environment, coupled with the ability to think creatively and laterally about a range of Fire Safety issues, you will exercise sound professional judgement in decision making, employing risk management principles to safeguard lives and buildings.

This position is based in our Derby Head office, but we've adopted a flexible hybrid working model that creates the opportunity to work in your own way at home but also provides great spaces for in-person collaboration.

This role also requires you to visit EMR sites as part of the position.
