What you’ll be doing:
- Respond immediately and safely to emergency calls and requests for assistance
- Attend emergency incidents including fires, medical, medical clinics, road accidents, floods, terrorist incidents, spillages of dangerous substances and air crashes
- Minimise distress and suffering, including providing trauma care
- Safeguard your own and other people’s personal safety
- Clear up and assist in returning the site to a normal state following an emergency incident
- Gather Operational Intelligence though familiarisation of on-site buildings, processes and hazards to assist in responding to emergency calls efficiently, effectively and safely
- Maintain and test the fire/ medical vehicles, fire and medical operational equipment
- Undertake scenario-based exercises and fire/ medical core skill training as part of your development and maintenance of competence
- Maintain the level of physical fitness necessary to carry out all the duties as a firefighter
- Educate and inform site-wide employees to promote fire safety
- Expected to have basic Microsoft IT skills to complete reports and audits
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Physically fit and able to undertake practical selection tests (including achieving 8.8 in the Bleep Test & UK Fire Service Fire-Ground Fitness Test) prior to interview
Desirable:
- Local Authority Fire & Rescue Service Firefighter
- HGV Class C Licence
- Emergency Fire Service Operations in the Community – NVQ Level 3

The Firefighter Team:
Working as a BAE Systems Submarines Fire & Rescue Service (BAEFRS) Firefighter you will carry out a diverse range of fire safety, fire & rescue service and medical activities contributing towards the safety of site staff, contractors, visitors and the safety of all buildings and vessel builds on our Nuclear Submarines site.
The role will provide you with a unique opportunity to join a rapidly growing team offering a wide range of in-house development as well as recognised further education. You will have the opportunity to progress your career into the Crew Commander and Watch Commander roles.
