Fleet Engineer Required in Crawley, West Sussex
  • £41.928 + overtime 
  • Government Services Owned Workshop

The Role: 
Due to a recent promotion our client is currently seeking a Engineer to join their Fleet Engineer to service a range of vehicles from Motorcycles to high performance cars and LCV’s; at their Crawley workshop. Our client offers a fantastic working environment with ongoing learning opportunities with a focus on work-life balance with a working week of Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week plus employee benefits. Ideally our client is looking for an experienced Vehicle Mechanic but also also are interested to hear from individuals who have completed NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) who have a desire to increase the experience and qualifications to reach their full potential with our clients support.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conversion planning: Lead the planning and implementation of vehicle conversions, ranging from marked response vehicles to bespoke vehicles to ensure our fleet meets operational needs.
  • Equipment integration: Oversee the integration of specialist police equipment into vehicles, ensuring safety of operators and the public by leveraging your technical knowledge.
  • Cost-efffective solutions: Research and analyse cost-effective methods of installing and removing specialist emergency equipment, ensuring compliance with evolving vehicle technology.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to coordinate equipment removal for recycling and reuse on future conversions.
  • Compliance assurance: Approve vehicle conversions to ensure compliance with legislation and financial constraints, safeguarding both vehicle users and workshop staff.
  • Prototype development: Design and develop prototype products using innovative technology like 3D printers and CAD software.
  • Documentation management: Create and maintain technical documentation and records related to vehicle equipment, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct independent quality audits and inspections to uphold engineering standards and ensure safety.
  • Policy development: Develop and communicate policies and procedures for safe vehicle installations, drawing on industry guidelines and best practise.
  • Technical guidance: Provide expert technical guidance to vehicle equipment and Vehicle Technicians, supporting their professional development.
  • Budget management: Monitor and manage allocated vehicle conversion budgets, proactively identifying and justifying spend.
As the ideal candidate, you will possess:
  • Clean Driving License
  • City and Guilds Vehicle Tehcnician Cert 1, 2 and 3 or equivalent NVQ Level 3
  • Proficient in communication skills.
  • Team Player
  • Experienced in coaching and training others within specialist component design and production.
  • Have specialist knowledge of installing overt and covert equipment.
  • Obtain great organisational skills, prioritising workloads.
  • Must be able to demonstrate IT office solutions, 3D printing software and a good understanding of wiring programs, MS Visio, Publisher and Word.
  • Good negotiation skills, articulating yourself clearly and confidently
  • Experience in conducting audits and inspections with a wider knowledge of relevant regulations.

The successful Fleet Engineer must be in possession of a current full UK driving licence.
