Location: Bradford / Hybrid Working, travel across the Yorkshire region is an essential part of the role

Work type: Temporary position for 9 x months. Working full time, 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday between a working window of 8:00am-6:00pm

We have an exciting opportunity for a Flood Risk & Engagement Engineer to join the Strategy & Regulation team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Strategy & Regulation are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

The Strategic Partnership team has an opportunity for a 9 month fixed term position into our team as a Flood Risk Engineer. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in partnership with other organisations to increase the flood resilience in Yorkshire and learn the intricacies of partnership working. Tasks include sharing information, producing reports and collaborating with Local Councils and the Environment Agency to achieve the requirements of the Flood and Water Management Act. You will also play a key role in supporting colleagues within the partnership team alongside building customers and community awareness of Flood Risk and the roles and responsibilities associated with Flood Risk management. This is a great opportunity to work in an innovative team forging new partnerships across the region.

Where you fit in:

As our Flood Risk & Engagement Engineer, you will ensure that Yorkshire Water fulfil their duties as a Risk Management Authority under the Floods & Water Management Act, by supporting and working with local councils and the Environment Agency to reduce Flood Risk in the region and protect and enhance the company’s reputation and to be seen as experts in Flood Risk Management.

You will -



• Have day to day contact with Lead Local Flood Authorities on Operational and Strategic Flood Risk issues
  • Attend Local Authority Scrutiny Panels as the company representative, engage with Flood Groups and Parish Councils and engage with Council Flood risk and drainage teams
  • Engage with senior councillors, Council cabinet members and Chief Executives and update and engage with MPs on Flood Risk Management
  • Manage high profile and escalated customer issues regarding floods and Water investigations
  • Liaise with Developer Services on SUDS planning and Adoption
  • Provide technical support to Directors at flood meetings
  • Provide company response to stakeholders and media teams on request
  • Identify and mitigate Flood Risks within operational areas
  • Provide quality flood investigations from all sources of flooding after incidents
  • Provide requested information pertaining to flood incidents for Local Authority Section 19 Flood investigations, as per legal duty
  • Provide front line response to large scale flood incidents
  • Attend regional Silver and Gold commands responding to flooding incidents and provide support to Director at Strategic Tactical Command Groups
  • Project manage multi-agency flood scheme delivery
  • Transfer operational information from Drainage Area Plans into wider operational teams to increase network knowledge

What skills & qualifications you will need-

  • You will have a valid UK driving licence, as travel is a key requirement of the role
  • Technical knowledge of the sewer network
  • Strong customer service ethos
  • Experience of understanding where your role/team’s role fits within a business plan and then implementing plans to deliver the outputs.
  • To be able to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships particularly with key stakeholders
  • Excellent influencing and communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management would be advantageous for the role
  • Previous experience gained within the water or waste water sectors or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors
