Formulation Scientist

We are currently seeking an interim Formulation Scientist, to work with our global FMCG client, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple, and become an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG environment.

The position is based at our client's scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral easily accessible by train and car. This is a full-time temporary role to run for 6 months, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation for this role is competitive, paying between 28,304- 35,871 per annum, pro rata, depending upon experience.

You will be involved in managing and deploying new technologies and formulations for Skin Cleansing Europe. You will work together with a cross-functional/technical team to validate and execute with excellence on a variety of initiatives. These will range from implementing new product mixes, further improving our environmental footprint, navigating European compliance challenges and supporting the delivery of our challenging margin improvement programme.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead formulation workstreams, specifically in the development and formulation of new products and in the re-development of existing products to meet marketing briefs, regulatory requirements or for 5S cost savings.
• Design, plan and execute own work plans, ensuring compliance with COSHH, GLP and SOP requirements.
• Prepare and characterise products at lab scale through a wide range of characterisation techniques.
• Statistical analysis of complex data sets to deliver key product insights for innovation or cost savings purposes
• Data Analysis & presentation of products in portfolio requiring changes to meet new compliance targets, analysis of resources, timelines and managing projects to ensure on-time completion.
• Clearly communicate results and recommendations, via presentations and formal written reports. Influence stakeholder's decision making.
• Project & technical risk management, ensuring technical action standards are met at key decision points
• Effective collaboration within cross-functional teams in different countries, across multiple projects.
• Develop technical mastery of Skin Cleansing formulations; technologies, measurement understanding and translating marketing ideas into robust technical briefs.

Key Requirements

• Minimum of a degree (or equivalent) in a Science or Engineering
• Previous experience working in a laboratory highly desirable
• Project management experience
• Great people skills; building and maintaining relationships. Ability to work well both independently and as part of a wider cross-functional team.
• Proactive problem solver with analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to interpret data
• Good knowledge of data management and analysis tools
• Good communication skills and ability to influence
• Passionate about brands and their consumers & a creative thinker
