Britcent is an English education consultancy based in London (although we are currently solely working from home).
We offer a variety of services such as
1. online 1-to-1 ESL lessons for adults (General English, IELTS and Business English)
2. daily English challenges (writing & speaking)
3. editing/proofreading services
4. online educational content creation such as Youtube videos and Instagram content.
We strive to provide top-quality services to students and professionals alike who need help with their English for social, academic or business purposes.
We've been operating for over 9 years and the company is continuing to grow rapidly. We are therefore looking for three freelance ESL tutors to join our growing team.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- a UK university degree (preferably in a relevant subject)
- a CELTA (120 hours +)/DELTA /DipTESOL/PGCE
- a minimum of 3 years experience of teaching ESL to adults
- good IT skills (using Zoom, G Drive, Google Docs)
- a clear British accent
- a positive attitude, patience, and communication skills
- a desire to teach long-term and commit to a fixed timetable
- experience in digital content creation, such as videos and podcasts
** IMPORTANT**
Please do not apply if you are NOT genuinely committed to teaching. At Britcent, all of our tutors view teaching as their primary career and are very accountable for their students. Based on our past experiences, we've observed that a large number of candidates apply for this position just because they think it's easy to earn money or see this position as a short-term, part-time job. If you fall into these categories, we kindly request that you refrain from applying. We are looking for serious teachers for our team.
- Furthermore, we set ourselves apart from standard online teaching platforms where tutors and students are randomly paired, and tutors simply follow a set curriculum. We prioritise the welfare of both students and tutors, striving to guarantee job security and income stability to the fullest extent.
- We also offer 'daily English challenges' where students watch a video or read a book every day and answer our questions in a voice message. Tutors will listen to the recording and provide voice message feedback.
- A paid two-week training period will be given. After successful training, we will start to arrange 1-to-1 lessons. Our students take at least one lesson per week at their designated time so it could provide you with income stability.
The hourly rate starts between £15 and £17 depending on your teaching skills, and will be increased by £1 after a probation period (3 months but can be extended depending on the performance). This rate can also increase over time upon review. If your performance is well above the average at Britcent, the rate can increase more quickly than usual.
There are two stages in this interview process:
1. A 15-min interview with our CEO. If it's successful,
2. A 50-min trial(demo) lesson with a student (£10 will be paid for this lesson)
You will be offered a starting teaching rate (£15-£17), which can increase if your performance is outstanding during the paid training period.

Why work for Britcent?
At Britcent, we consider our tutors’ welfare to be as important as our students’. This is shown through regular communication between management staff and tutors. Other benefits include monthly CPD sessions and regular training. We are quite different to traditional language schools, not only because we do everything online, but because tutors can be given other responsibilities apart from teaching, such as challenges, editing essays, and creating online learning content.
