L.B. Foster’s UK business has operations in Sheffield, London, Nottingham & Telford. The business provides technology-based services and solutions for Telecoms, Fire Management, Automation & Materials Handling, Electrical Wiring & Control Rooms and Digital Display. We serve a range of blue-chip customers across markets such as Rail, Defence, Retail, Leisure, Manufacturing, Power Generation and Airports.

The Full Stack Developer is responsible for successful delivery and maintenance of one or multiple products. This role will involve working alongside the team to create development work items in an Agile working environment, ensure code quality is appropriate, testable, and documented. Additionally, troubleshoot bugs and/or triage issues identified by the support team, validated by QA.

The Developer will work with the broader team to ensure product architecture meets the long-term strategy and needs of the business. Collaborating with the Operations Manager (Inform) and working directly with the development team, set and prioritise objectives for product deliverables in line with business strategy and key road-mapped milestones. The Developer will ensure team code quality is up to standard and assist with the creation of test processes where required. The Developer will take part in final product reviews before release into pre-production and production environments.

The Full Stack Developer will work at all levels of architecture, offering guidance to colleagues on best and most optimal practices and creating code as part of a wider team of Developers.

Responsibilities:

  • Run regular meetings with the team(s) to ensure delivery progress is on track and conduct and take part in Agile ceremonies with the team.
  • Ensure that User Stories, Tasks, Specifications, Test Cases, and Code Strategy are written and appropriate.
  • Where there is a data, revenue or reputation risk, the Full Stack Developer will form part of an ‘all hands’ team to triage and remedy any production issues.
  • Develop entirely new features directly in the product.
  • Maintain existing code, investigate, and resolve reported issues.
  • Build backend functionality.
  • Build and update front-end web applications, maintaining appealing visual design.
  • Work with QA/Wider Team on product deliverables through testing and production.
  • Maintain code quality and lead code reviews.
  • Create unit tests.
  • Recognise risks to product delivery, identify to the wider teams and escalate.
  • Evaluate requirements submitted by stakeholders and work with the team to respond with resource requirements, timescales, and lead times.
  • Assist with the scoping, design, and planning of new solutions.
  • Ensure technical documentation is created and maintained.
  • Challenge requirements and proposed approaches, and work towards better standards with the team.
  • Create reusable code.
  • Apply correct process, control, and procedure to development activities.
  • Feed experience and ideas into product roadmaps or active project developments.
  • Occasionally attend client-facing meetings or conference calls relating to project or support-related activities and actions.
  • Ensure workflows, themes, and user experience are consistent within our applications.
  • Creation of technical documentation and release notes.
  • Lead daily SCRUM and regular Agile ceremonies.
  • Assist the support team as required on reactive issues discovered in production.
  • On infrequent occasion, complete time-sensitive tasks or high-priority tasks outside of standard business hours.
  • Any work which is reasonably associated with the role.
  • May be required to undertake training to learn new technologies and/or practices to support the role.

HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • You are responsible for ensuring that you and any staff or sub-contractors under your management or control work safely and comply with all current and relevant health and safety and environmental legislation including the Railway Group and Company Standards
  • You are responsible for ensuring that you and your staff and sub-contractors under your management or control assess and control risks and plan and implement safe methods of working and are competent to carry out the task.
  • You are responsible for ensuring the safety of passengers, the general public and the environment is not affected by the activities of you, your staff and contractors under your control.
  • You must ensure that accidents, incidents or near misses to you or staff under your control are reported to your manager, and that the accident book is filled in promptly.
  • You must ensure you and any staff under your management participate in the company cascade safety briefings.

Experience:

  • Experience in Azure, developing and debugging solutions in native Azure Web and Function resources.
  • Degree in relevant field and or min 2-6 years’ work experience
  • Project experience
