Full-time Mechanic
John Atkins Cycles is looking for an experienced mechanic to join their small but busy workshop. With over 50 years of combined, hands-on experience and knowledge in our workshop, we pride ourselves on providing a well-rounded and expert service to cyclists in Warwickshire.
Key skills and attributes
Prior experience working in a bicycle workshop is necessary, whether you have 1-year or 30-years under your belt. We’re seeking someone who can hit the ground running and get stuck straight in.
An interest in bicycles is desirable as you will be handling everything from folding commuter bikes and hi-spec road cycles to well-used mountain bikes and e-bikes. Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with all aspects of the trade though as there is such a wide spectrum.
A thirst for knowledge is absolutely key for this role - the cycle trade is ever-changing as bikes and parts weigh less, are made of innovative new materials, and elite trends shape the way average people want their bikes to look and feel.
Excellent people skills are necessary in a retail environment - you are going to be handling some people’s primary means of transport, one-of-a-kind builds, and even some vintage treasures, so a friendly demeanor is important.
About the role
As mechanic you will generally be in the workshop 5-days a week working on everything from replacing inner tubes to custom builds. As the summer season begins we will be busy servicing people’s bikes ahead of club rides and holidays, and general tune-ups to keep people safe on the road through the warmer months
John Atkins Cycles also houses a retail shop so you will spend some time serving customers; answering queries about parts and accessories, and showcasing a wide variety of brands and products. If you’re going to be handling all sorts in the workshop, the shop floor is the perfect place to impress and advise with your knowledge.
